My name is Chai and my pronouns are he/they! On this blog, I'll be referring to myself by my username, AGFanGrrL. I am 20 years old. (Almost 21! Where has the time gone?)

My current collection consists of 5 dolls: Ivy Ling, Nanea Mitchell, A Custom JLY #33 (Her name is Calypso!), a rewigged Mia St. Clair, and Kit Kittredge! I look forward to watching my collection grow!

I hate doll photography. I'm horrible at taking photos, since my hands shake and I can never find good lighting. But, for anyone curious, here's Nanea and Ivy, along with the first ever picture of Mia, Calypso, and Chip! Edit: Added photo of Kit!

I need to get around to reading Kits Series, Julie's series (For Ivy of course), Nanea's book and Mia's books to get a better grasp in their styles and personalities.

Since Calypso was originally styled after me before I customized her *and transitioned*, Calypso will be an anime nerd with ADHD. Like me! I think it would also be fun to give her more mini plushes and mini dolls when I finally get around to having a dedicated display/dollhouse for them.

For the first time in almost 8 years, I picked up a needle and thread and got to work sewing. This was originally a Build A Bear sweater, and it was definitely a bit big on Ivy before. Now I think the fit is much better! Definitely not perfect, but it could definitely be worse after 8 years out of practice.

Here is a before pic for reference, although it was tied with a rubber band in the back. If it wasnt, it would fall off.

I think it looks pretty good both before with the rubber band method, and after with some very poor sewing.

I like the sleeves more now

Finished fixing up my American girl dog (Chip) when I got him, his fur was a bit matted down flat and all brushed in one direction. I think the difference is subtle, but he definitely looks better now!

Molly's mom is so underappreciated and she deserves more hype. Rereading Meet Molly after around 10 years. I forgot how short yet impacting these books are.

First time fixing up a second hand doll, kinda nervous but its going well?

No, it shouldn't have taken me this long to fix up Calypso but here we are!

So far I've...

Washed her off with a magic eraser

She didn't have any stains so I move on to repainting her teeth paint, it was faded.

Currently tightening her limbs, it went well so all I need to do is restuff her body, reattach her head, fix her hair (which is going to be a task and a half) and then put her in a temporary outfit while I clean some of my second hand doll clothes.

And then to do various touch ups on 3 other dolls. : )

Update: got her restuffed! Brushed her hair, waiting for it to fully dry or mostly dry before styling. Otherwise, Calypso is done! In the mean time, it's Naneas turn! She's the only one I got new in box, so she doesn't need too much. She does need her limbs tightened and her hair restyled though.

Update 2: Nanea has a zip tie, hate that. That's being removed asap.

Update 3: Ziptie removed! That took me an embarrassingly long amount of time, but I was able to replace her ziptie with a neck string and restuff her. I put her in her Meet outfit and am waiting for her curls to dry! On to Mia. This might take me all night honestly.

Update 3.5, decided to wait and finish this project Friday, so for now...Update pics for Nanea and Calypso!

Honestly I don't think it's really obvious what I fixed on her, but she's cute as always.

And until Naneas hair dries, I won't be able to style it the way I want to. She's definitely standing better though!!

Exciting Update: !!!

My amazing partner got me a Kit doll for Christmas, so Ivy and Mia are being pushed back a little longer while I work on Kit! She's in fantastic condition, although her legs are a little loose and theres some glitter on the vinyl, but that shouldn't take long to fix! Going to start on her immediately!

Update 4: Cleaned + Tightened limbs, time to restuff her!

AKit is done!!! Her limbs are super tight which is phenomenal and she looks brand new! Technically the first of my dolls to be done with restoration and maintenance!!

She has replaced Ivy as my favorite, which i did not think was possible

Finished up Calypso! Honestly, her hair is so hard to work with, her previous owner cut her hair, and brushed it without water. Her wig is uneven and thin, and I'm so tempted to get a new wig for her. She'd be a great doll for my first attempt at rewigging a doll myself, since I didn't pay much at all for her upfront. Other than her wig, she's doing well!

Update 5: Customized and rewigged Calypso!

Fixed Mia's limbs and redid her iconic braid! Her hair is a couple shades darker than the original Mia doll. Hopefully one day I can get a steamer and smooth out those flyaways!

Finally not sick, so here are pictures of the updated doll collection!

Above: A Restored Mia I bought off Mercari! She's had her wig replaced, but she's still so adorable! She might be my new favorite (don't tell Ivy!!) Easily the best deal I've found in my collection. I paid $55 for her.

Above: Nanea! She's still doing well! No idea what I bought her for, its been years, but she was new in box. My estimate is $80

Above: Calypso! She's a JLY #33, whos previous owner gave her a bit of a haircut. She's still adorable, and used to be a mini me, but I look so different now that she's just herself now. The cheapest doll in my collection, I paid $29 for her.

Above: Ivy! The one who started it all, the doll, the myth, the legend! Definitely the most expensive doll in my collection, I paid $230 for her in her original meet outfit.

And the best for last...

Above: Chip! (Short for Chocolate Chip) He's Naneas dog *in my collection. I paid $3 for him and he is spoiled.

I'm excited to watch my collection continue to grow!

I bit the bullet at customized Calpyso! I think she turned out cute, I added some freckles and painted her face, and rewigged her.

Debating making Calypso (my jly #33) into a full custom. I'll keep the eyes the same, but I've already ordered a new wig, and I'm considering adding some face paint and piercings too. Piercings always look so cool on customs.

On the other hand, I do really like her factory face paint, and she's adorable as is. Decisions decisions.

Fellow AG doll Collectors specifically: how are we categorizing custom dolls or dolls that have been eye swapped? Do you still mention the base model, even if they look extremely different? Do you mention it if they look nearly the same? If you customized Mia, would you call her a custom Mia doll, even if she had a different name in your collection? Does JLY number still matter after customization is done?

This is just something I've been very curious about! Any answers would be appreciated.
