i can’t fully articulate/explain my thought process on this one but i just have this unshakeable opinion that trapper handles hawkeye in those first three seasons, and then hawkeye handles bj in the following

What Pokemon gym leaders would the main mash characters be?

I feel very strongly that Radar should be a psychic type gym leader (but like. plot wise you don’t realize he is until it’s revealed once you get to the gym. he’s like “Oh wait that’s where I’m supposed to be”)

Imagining Radar is quite the talk of the town, people would say 'He can see every move before it happens, thats why he's so tough to beat!' and his team would consist of like, less intimidating pokemon, like Musharna, Reuniclus, Indeedee, Rabsca.

That said , he is a really tough battle cause he can in fact, see moves before they happen.

Also he has a Psyduck but its more of a buddy pokemon that doesn't battle.

Hawkeye would either lean into the fact that his nickname is Hawkeye and be a flying type leader with bird pokemon, or being from a coastal area, he'd be a water type leader, of course using the crusteceans, like Kingler and Crawdaunt, as well as water fowl like Pelipper and Cramorant, to bring the flying type into it cause of his nickname plus a Magikarp that doesn't battle as a buddy

This might be a bit jokey but Margaret would be a fire type trainer, Magmortar, both Ceruledge and Armarouge, Coalossal , and a male salandit as a buddy pokemon that doesn't battle

I like your thinking. And to add on, I can see the Hunnicutt family being Normal type trainers who challenge you to a double battle like this couple

And Francis Mulcahy being a Fighting type gym leader would be very attractive fitting for his character in my opinion

I'm not the most familiar with Pokemon but I could see Trapper with a Dark type team. I have no solid backing for this other than I think he would really love a Houndoom

And to add to your thought! The gym will be really dark, and you might think it’s a gimmick like most of the other gyms have, but actually the lights are off because he was napping

Realistically it'd be heartwarming for the three of them to meet on good terms: Bj more stable and less jealous,Hawkeye more willing to pull people close emotionally,and Trapper being more forthcoming about his personal issues. All of them reconnecting at a midway point like Colorado.

But also it'd be hilarious as hell if Hawkeye was a failed mediator between the two fighting like cats. Like,Hawkeye's fresh out of rehab and doesnt have the energy to actually break up the cat fight. So he's sitting on the side line hosing them down with a garden hose. Their bags scattered across his front lawn. Cause of course bj HAD to start something thinking Trapper wouldnt finish it.
