I travel the streets of downtown Hamilton quite often. It’s funny because before I had started senior year in high-school, I don’t think I ever ventured that far into the downtown core. It always had this rundown persona that made me assume it was some terrible place to be, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. This photo is what I would call a classic in the eyes of the many who live here; as in there are many just like it. One cannot help but to capture the beauty of Hamilton’s most photographed buildings: Pigott, Commerce Place, Federal Life Assurance. They are the perfect combination of past and new age living, representing something more than just structures, but a community that is expanding into something new and intently wonderful.

There is a great strength in the way old meets the new in this photograph. With overlapping antique signs that layer onto the back ground of an old church and a rejuvenated public school, it is the perfect example of the direction Hamilton is moving in. This city is a collision of steel town history and art culture, which makes it such an interesting place be. I thoroughly enjoy living here and I appreciate everything it has to offer. Despite the perception of being rough around the edges, Hamilton hosts a vibrant culture that is developing into something new and so very wonderful! It is exciting, enticing, and the people here are truly inspiring to be around.
