welcome to my little blog dedicated to my extremely mediocre photography as well as a few words about each adventure i've gone on. i am by no means a professional photographer. this is just a hobby of mine and this blog is just a ways of documenting all my photos somewhere.
These pictures were a ton of fun to take. Sarah and I made our own little photoclub event, but no one showed up, much to our advantage. We just took pics of each other instead and it was so fun! We had our own little photoshoot & its definitely something i would want to do again.
portraits are probably one of my favorite things, painting and photography wise. now, its just a matter of finding a way to become more creative with them.
hi, i’m back. at least i hope i am. not saying i’ll be posting a ton like i used to but hoping for at least 2 new posts per month, just to keep my skills (or whatever i skills i hope i have) fresh.
with school, any hobby i had has pretty much gone out the window because i have very little free time, and the free time i do have, i just want to use to relax.
i also used to paint and draw a ton, but recently i haven’t had any inspiration to do so. i sometimes get random bursts of inspiration but it’s not the way it used to be. so, i’ve decided to take matters into my own hands rather than waiting for inspiration to come to me. if i just force myself to get back into my usual routine of creativity i think i’ll be back where i need to be.
which brings me back to why i want to try and post on here more. i’ve always been a super creative person since i was little, and painting and drawing is what really has my heart. but i’m really into photography too and want to get better! i’m not sure i’ll ever actually do anything with it, but i like having it as my little hobby.
photoclub meeting: monotone & portraits // march 30th, 2017.
originally, the plan for the photo club meeting was to do monotone photography so we had people bring in lots of things that were the same color and we were just going to play around with them and see what we came up with. but then we got the idea to use the projector and take portraits and well, here’s what i came out with.
one of my favorites from my trip to hoboken. i took a couple pictures similar to this. I like the way the wires look against the sky. learned a lot about editing and new techniques while going through these pictures.
honestly just liked the way this looked because of the color of the house.

i love this picture because i feel like it tells a story idk. also i like the pink and grey and pale colors
a bunch of the photo club members wanted to go on a trip because the trip for this particular weekend was to hoboken, nj but at night because a lot of us wanted to do night photography. so, for those who couldn’t go on the night trip to hoboken, they went into the village in the morning to see what we could find.
i went on both trips because i had nothing else to do. so we went into town, got some bagels, and went on a walk (getting a couple pictures while we did so). i don’t really love a lot of these, other than some of the portraits i took which i am pretty proud of.

ok i’m pretty proud of these 3 portraits. i’m not sure if it’s that i like the way i took and edited these or if it’s just because ryan is photogenic but i like these a lot nonetheless.
ok i thought this looked pretty cool also. it was the top of some weird pole thing.
i chose this first picture as the cover because i feel like it’s the main part of untermyer. also, with these pictures i learned how to edit a lot better and so i feel like they came out a little better then my other ones.
i’m a sucker for dead plants that still manage to look pretty.
thought the silhouette on this one looked kinda cool.

i realize now that i edited these and made them much too dark. i’m a bit too lazy to go back an fix them. i do like the way they look faded though, but i could definitely see how it could look a lot better if i had turned up the exposure and vibrance a little bit.
not a good picture by any means, but the only decent one i got of this structure.
i actually really love this picture, i think just because of the cool tone (this is one of the few pictures i actually turned the vibrance up rather than down in!)
oh yeah, natalie came on this little adventure with me. it was a fun way to catch up after not having seen each other in a couple months because of school & just life in general.

very stereotypical lock photo, & i put it in black and white. doesn’t get any more basic than that.
overall, a really fun and relaxing day. i’m definitely planning on going one day during the summer when the plants and trees are alive and everything just loos prettier. there’s so much more at untermyer to see than i had even realized. there’s also a whole section where there is graffiti, plus a trail i’d never known about.
so i haven’t posted in a while, mostly because i feel like my pictures suck. i went and looked through them and i guess i just don't like them anymore as much as i did when i first took them.
of course, there’s still a couple i like but ultimately i’m not that great. which is fine, because i’m still just trying to improve and figure out what kind of photography it is that i like. i have a ton of sets of photos that i’m looking through and editing to post so keep an eye out. a bunch of stuff will be posted soon.
i’ve learned a lot the past couple days about photography and just some basic rules on how i could improve it and make mine better. since implementing everything i’ve learned i definitely see a lot of improvement.
the pictures i took in hoboken are my favorite! can’t wait to share them here.

just some random 4pm thoughts. // march 15th, 2017.
so i’m currently sitting in my university library studying for a huge anatomy exam i know nothing for tomorrow but all i can think about is how i just want to be good at so many things.
i just want to be good at photography, and music and art. i want to be a good student and nurse. a good sister, daughter, friend.
yesterday i was saying how i should just stick to the few things i know how to do pretty okay. i really want to be good at photography. i know though, that right now i’m just barely mediocre at it.
to get better i have to educate myself on how to become better and i have to practice. so i guess this random post is just mainly for me, to remind myself that in order to be good at something i need to practice.
so here’s to trying my hardest and practicing in order to improve the many skills (not just photography) that i want to work on.
south mountain reservation & some portraits. // march 3rd, 2017.
i love the colors in this picture. i think i might’ve upped the saturation/vibrance in this one a little and the sharpness. i really like the way it looks.
probably one of my favorites of this set. i just love how the background looks.
this picture it very monotoned. (i’m not sure if that’s the right word for it) but i just like how the picture is all kind of one tone and how the little flower looking things look. dead plants can be beautiful too.
i took so many pictures of mary on this day. i just loved the way her bright blue hat looked against the dead trees and how it stood out so much.
i used photoshop to edit this picture. the most dramatic thing i did was blur th background a little bit and then i upped the brightness on her and the part that was focused.
another picture of caitlin i adore. definitely love the other one a little more because of the brighter colors. (which is wierd because i usually like the colors faded more)
very proud of this shot.
at this point i think my love for photos of simple little plants with a blurry background is obvious.

here are pictures of caitlyn’s feet. i thought the colors just looked cool.
this picture was so dull. i tried to bring up the contrast and saturation but this is the best i could do without it looking overedited. (even though it still kind of does look over editied, which is my least favorite thing ever.) oh well.
although it was absolutely FREEZING on this day, it was worth it. (just like all the trips). i can’t wait until spring when it’s nice outside and i don’t have to wear jackets on these trips and bring gloves so my hands don’t freeze and don’t have to wait 2 pairs of socks so my feet don’t go numb. (they still went numb, should’ve worn 3 pairs.)
before arriving to the factory we had to wait for a few more photo club members to arrive at the reservation. we were sitting in the freezing cold for probably i would say... 45 minutes? it was FREEZING i couldn’t feel my body at all.
once we got to this place though, the waiting was worth it. i think i got some really cool pictures out of it. not to mention how fun it was.
a favorite. not because of the composition of the picture but just because of what it says.

a simple picture that i really adore. i think all i did to this picture was turn down the vibrance slightly and up the sharpness a little bit.

as far as editing goes, just did the usual. vibrance down, contrast & sharpness up. definitely wanna play around more with lightroom soon.
before heading onto the trail at south mountain we couldn’t help but stop at the dog park. we met some adorable dogs; i was even able to learn a little bit about each one.
didn’t catch this one’s name, such a sweet dog nonetheless. he or she was posing for me here.
this is rosie. she is such a friendly dog, once you start petting her she just stays and hangs around you.
this is molly. she is also very friendly, i believe her owner said she was getting pretty old. she loves attention.
meet spike, aka the best dog you’ll ever meet. spike used to be a guard/police dog but unfortunately had to retire because he was TOO FRIENDLY. have you ever heard something so precious?
along with being one of the sweetest dogs ever he was also super protective. when i was petting him he wouldn’t allow anyone near me and was such a loyal dog. he was also super protective of his tennis balls, not letting anyone take them away from him.
as far as the mark on his head, i never asked about it so i’m not sure why it’s there. miss this guy already. such a great dog.
this is judy. she is only 6 months old and she loves attention as well. obviously, she is such a cute dog. all she wanted was to play with her stick.
meet cracker. i was talking to his owner and she was telling me about how she put a little sweater on him because he’s so small and gets so cold very easily. she takes care of lots of dogs and brings them to the dog park for about 3 hours. this little sweater helps keep him warm for the long period of time they’re at the park.
“cracker doesn’t like other dogs, but he loves people.”
even though he’s small he does look a bit intimidating, but he was so sweet. he loved being pet and shown attention. after 5 minutes with him i just wanted to take him home.
also while on the trip we met a man who is actually a professor at seton hall’s business school. i just think it’s cool how we see so many people we’re connected to on these trips.
