So I finished Free! The final stroke last night and while I love the series so much overall I was a bit disappointed in the last movie.

Mostly just because I feel like Makoto’s feelings go unaddressed. Like throughout the movie they show that Makoto is clearly feeling sad/maybe even jealous that haru and rin are going to places that he can’t follow and they never really have him talk about it with either of them.

Sure they have the whole “I love your swimming” reminder but it still doesn’t really scratch the surface of what he’s feeling or what’s going on with him.

Idk I was just kind of dissatisfied with it. Feel like the other characters feelings/dreams were kind of resolved or set up to continue but his story didn’t get a real conclusion. And he’s my favorite so I feel like he deserved more.

Anyways, just needed to rant even though no one will probably read this 🤣

Also if anyone has any fic recs where this gets like remedied I’d love to read them. Or any fic recs in general.

Rin's spotlight is pissing me off it should have been Makoto

Rin has literally been a key figure from the very beginning (as the deuteragonist)—the staff confirmed in an interview after the second season that he and Haru are the core of *Free!*—so does the fact that he takes center stage in the final movie really annoy you? Especially considering he’s always been a focal point.

I’m assuming you’re talking to the person who reblogged my post cause I didn’t say anything about Rin bothering me and it doesn’t bother me that Rin was a focal point. He always should be. I do see him as part of the core of Free!

my complaint was just that they literally didn’t go anywhere with makotos dreams. Some of the things just never get addressed and I would’ve liked it for him to get some closure on this as a character.

I do wish that Nagisa and rei had some more time though too since they were also very focal in the first season and part of the heart of Free!

Overall it just kinda didn’t seem up to the usual standard but after reading about the fires and them losing things l, I think that’s a big reason why.
