He had been trying to get to her for god knew how long. Itâs not a good idea, Steve. â Yeah, well, screw you; Iâm goinâ anyways. By all accounts, he had healed. ( If there was one thing Steve Rogers seemed to be good at, it was staying alive. ) He wouldnât scar, and he couldnât blame her for what had happened even if he did. Despite that, he knew her scars traveled far deeper than skin, and he hung in the doorway for a moment before following her inside. âAnd you shouldnât be locked up,â he returned easily. HYDRA did this; HYDRA was determined to rip them apart at the seams. âThis isnât your fault, Sharon.âÂ
Of course thatâs what heâs here for; she should have known. After all that time she spent posing as his neighbor, she should have known that making sure the woman who nearly killed him wasnât blaming herself was directly up his alley. Sheâs not sure if that makes her want to laugh or cry, but Carter women do not cry in front of people and sheâs definitely not going to let him think sheâs encouraging this visit, so she abstains from both. Continuing to refrain from turning around, she shakes her head in disbelief. âI know that. Doesnât change the fact that I did it." She can still feel where the blood dried on her hands and arms, can still taste the bits that wound up in her mouth, and works to fight the urge to throw up again. âThey need to point their finger at someone, and brainwashing isnât the most rock-solid argument, so Iâm stuck here for a while.â A short pause; is it safe to turn around? Will it ever be safe? âBesides, we donât know what else they jammed into my head. Which is why you should be wherever the opposite of here is. Itâs safer that way.â
