Something I've been wondering about again reading the Jeff Buckley book by Dave Lowery is if one of my favorite movies "Empire Records" partly styled AJ (Johnny Whitworth) off of Jeff Buckley. I always noticed it, besides also the obvious shoutouts to Nirvana and other alt-rock/grunge/indie artists at the time, and I loved AJ in this movie. I still see Jeff more too with AJ/Johnny also having that same dark hair and hairstyle, the way he talked, the romantic storyline with Corey fitting Jeff's songs, and the layers of clothes. The movie came out too in late 1995 and filmed in late 1994 after the "Grace" album was out, so the timing seems right. Just curious about this too since so far there's only been one actor Penn Badgley that's played Jeff in fictional movie, though Reeve Carney was supposed to as well, but I think it's been delayed or cancelled. So, I guess I'm just curious if Jeff was one of the inspirations for AJ, and then that means 3 actors I've been a fan of for years have played a version of Jeff. 😀
