SUPERSTRINGS

It’s time we went back to our yet unanswered dystopian riddle: Was Deckard really a replicant or have Ridley and K. Dick been wasting our times all along? And this time we are going to leave the open-ended question out on the loose for four years. If you ask us, he actually was! But the veil of mystery will be literally lifted off in four years, so we stay hoisting our disclaimer. You have been warned, though! Four years from now is 2019. And if you wait until its November we will behold the twist unsnarl and get to the curtain call of androids dreaming electric sheep. All we have to do is to get on our Sedan and drive to Los Angeles.

But there is work to be done before that. We need to keep the mystery fresh and valid. That’s where all our cyberpunk electronic troopers attend the rescue squad. And we being an honoured full-metal protector of keeping the dream alive go through a lengthy endurance of goosebumps when devoted robots such as Code Elektro revive the neon decade and do as much damage as joystick to our brain.

“Cyber Dreams”, the opening track from Code Elektro’s first album Superstrings, has the frolicsome synth rhythms of Mitch Murder splayed out on a darkwave foil of apocalyptic measures in the same alley as El Huervo’s “Turf”. The shuttle launch of “Cyber Dreams” is a tactfully exponential jigsaw taking form like an accelerated intro of Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn”. But here is no place for a fast-paced gaining momentum as elements are dropped in and out serving their short span of suspense in a Moog-driven space before an abrupt fadeout.

During these four minutes, a cluster of point-like particles weave together, vibrate in harmony, project a short pink fluorescent dream and then quickly vanish. And it all somehow makes sense: Code Elektro, in real glory of life, is Martin Ahm, 36 from Denmark. In an interview, he explains the purpose the album title serves:

To me, the word Superstrings bears two meanings: the strings you find on musical instruments, and also the physical theory of the entire universe being constructed from very small vibrating strings. I like the idea of the world being connected in that way. I find it obvious to depict this through music.
