ahn aaron. 33. theatre professor.

     aaron was... definitely vain. well, maybe it was just a lot of confidence. it sort of came with the territory of his love of theatre. so an interview about him? he said yes with high enthusiasm. he was sure most students wouldn’t actually care much what he had to say but it’s a boost to his self-esteem nonetheless. he was very flattered.

     “so, when do we start?”

     “no, right here, see. it’s lamenting, it’s sad. her entire life is changing and she’s scared. now, try it again. think of something that hurts and use it.” aaron sighed, trying to keep the frustration at a minimum. it wasn’t her, really, she was doing perfectly fine. she was great, in fact. his personal passion for the piece always got him worked up. his vision was too specific, he knew it. “just a little louder, too.”

“I really hope you aren’t fucking with me,” Jackson stated warily before taking a bite of the unfamiliar food in front of him. The broth was surprisingly tasty and complemented the vegetables and seafood nicely. The only issue was that the spiciness of the dish was growing in intensity with each slurp.

“Aaron, what in devil’s name are you feeding me,” Jackson’s deep southern drawl showed more when he was upset and right now he felt deeply betrayed by his old friend. He looked up from the soup and glared at Aaron.

    aaron almost choked on his own food laughing at jackson. “as a southern man you can’t sit there and act like you’ve never had anything this spicy. tennessee hot chicken? it’s right along with it.”

     he shook his head, a shit eating grin on his face. he moved his own bowl closer to himself and took a spoonful. aaron had taken pity on jackson, they were just in his apartment. he could only imagine what people in a restaurant would think of the situation. jackson wasn’t exactly being quiet.

     “can you use chopsticks? we could try. not sure if your barbaric hands could hold them.”

     tired, aching hands ran down his button down, aaron absentmindedly smoothing the fabric. an exasperated sigh escaped him as he considered. note to self: it definitely makes you a terrible college professor to show up to class hungover. although it was usually more common than you’d think. his head felt like it was overheating with the migraine, a steady pounding distracting him from any words he tried this morning. to make matters worse he was also late.

     a solid eight minutes. he could almost see the students counting down the minutes waiting to see if they could book it out of there from a no-show instructor. he almost shuffled almost ran into the lecture hall, scraped fingers trying to quickly re-button the shirt he had done up wrong. ‘how the hell did i do this to my hands.’

     “sorry- sorry.” there was a small tug to his tie to straighten it and a soft cough to clear his throat. “cutting it close, i’m sure.”

     “we’ll uh,” his usual confidence in class was completely gone, all of his leftover brain power spent on pain and nausea. “we’ll start in just a moment.”

“it’s jjambbong.” aaron’s bright face lit up some more, a laugh shaking him a little. he pushed the big white soup bowl further in front of jackson. the greasy red broth was steaming, a plethora of vegetables and seafood swirling around. if he could just get jackson to try it, well, maybe the heat would be too much. “it’s...well.” he paused. “why don’t you just try it before i tell you what’s in it.”
