“When I’m home, nobody will talk to me. It’s like I am dead. I don’t like quiet because then I have nothing. So I ride the train into the city. Compared to home, the city is like heaven. There are a million people you can ask for help. There are people to help you up the stairs. And there are so many smells. I love the smell of food. Right now I’m trying to memorize my way to Carnegie Hall. I like to go to theaters and museums where my mind can be nourished. Sometimes I can hear tourists talking about the exhibits. Sometimes I hear college students talking to each other and it makes me feel younger. It makes me feel like I’m still alive in this world.”

I just spent the past two hours scrolling through my archives, and a part of me shriveled up @ the angsty sadgirl posts (lol), but I’m glad I kept them around.
It’s been nearly nine months since my slow dance with death. The healing process hasn’t been as linear as I’d hoped, but I am just happy to be alive today.
Heya Mitch! I was wondering what advice you would give an aspiring poet?
stop being an “aspiring” poet my dude!! it’s poetry, you can write a poem RIGHT NOW. about your day, about how you felt, about the sky, and looking at it, and how THAT made you feel.
trust me, the longer you label yourself an aspiring anything the harder it’s going to be to actually become that thing. wake up tomorrow, proudly announce that you are a poet, and write poems. even if they’re not good at first, write them anyway. write them until it feels natural and until the thought of writing them excites you. look i’ll write a haiku right now.
sometimes it feels likeno one can stop a tired thoughtwithout getting tired
there, i wrote a poem today. now you write one. then write another one. write one tomorrow, then the next day. throw yourself into the idea that you’re a creative and expressive person and then openly be that person forever. if that’s the person you truly want to be, that is.
*uses lol and lmfao to make embarrassing and sad truths about myself seem like a joke*
