THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BABEY!!!!!
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that it’s worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the president’s agenda.
What this means, and if anything I’m under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
Bringing back this guide to writing an effective public comment. This gives you the basics you need to know, what you need to include, a basic outline you can follow, etc.
Public comments are not a vote, it is a chance for you to say "here is an issue with this law I think you need to address" and provide justification for legal challenges if it goes forward:
"Comments raise the bar that agencies have to meet when making a rule; “if an agency fails to adequately respond to significant, relevant comments in a final rule, members of the public may seek to challenge the rule in court on that basis and claim it could be struck down.ˮ"
But also, if possible, don't stop at writing a comment. Don't stop at calling your representatives. You should ideally be talking to people in your community about this and organizing resistance on-the-ground; there is a good chance people are already doing that even if you aren't hearing about it.
Despite being an entire continent completely devoid of mammalian predators, there are not as many lineages of flightless birds as one might expect of an environment like this. This is because of the unique positioning of Antarctica, with the continent experiencing a polar night across the entire surface, six months of the entire continent receiving a perpetual night. Due to this, land migrations into more hospitable environments like the ones found in the northern hemisphere, are not possible, and herbivores like anatids need to retain their flight in order to fly to South America for greener pastures. For the few that stay, they must survive temperatures below -30 Celsius, and practically no food for those six months of winter.
One group that has perfectly adapted to ensure these winters are the Karanis (Crassopectiniformes). This ancient order of birds was amongst the first to colonize the continent when it first started to thaw, and has found great success through a very unique adaptation. Although they have completely lost their wings, they still retain a fairly robust breastbone that they use not to support large flying muscles. They take advantage of the short growth period of plants on the continent and eat as much as they can, storing all the extra energy in the form of fat that they slowly burn through the winter to supplement the meagre amounts of food they can acquire during it.
They are distributed throughout the continent and are generally very large, with the largest of them being the Titan Karani (Crassopectus corpulentus), with a summer weight of almost 300kg. Even more impressive is the amount of weight they gain for their winter molt, as they can reach over 500kg during this time, almost doubling in weight. They are the widest ranged species of the group, living across the shrublands, tundra and open carpet forests of the continent, feeding on any plant they can cut with their sharp beaks.

the problem with not having watched anime growing up is that when I watch anime now I am suddenly assaulted with psychic blasts in which I recognize the source for all mannerisms and aesthetics of my peers
anime character: [does a gesture with his hand]
me: [involuntarily skyrockets backwards through time while screaming]
you guys I am having a fucking moment over here because I just started hunter x hunter and I am faced with the strong possibility that my old enemy from study abroad based his whole personality on one of the characters
is this how cosmic horror protagonists feel when they receive secret truths about the universe that unravel their sanity? because I don’t know if I can keep mine burdened with the knowledge that I spent six months of my life violently beefing with someone who kinned this guy:
sorry for elevating the tags op im trying to reconstruct this scenario in my minds eye.
literally the first day I met him I was like “this guy talks and acts like he’s trying to be an anime villain” and somehow it didn’t occur to me that he was trying to be a specific anime villain.
he’s the guy from this post in which I really downplayed just how fucking weird he was because it distracted from the point of the story but oh my god. I swear to god he quoted lines from the show. he kept his fingernails filed into sharp points for slashing damage. he thought suddenly appearing behind you and grabbing you by the throat was a really funny way to greet you. do you know how much psychic damage I am taking from this revelation? do you know???? after our first fight he brushed himself off and said “oh what fun that was!” in this stupid voice, even though I’d kicked his ass. I can’t believe I thought I was maybe going to be murdered by an alcoholic hisoka kinnie. how do I un-know this.
hey! you’ll never guess what he’s up to now!
he works for the department of defense.

Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
