I would like to remind you that not all non-binary people go through the same issues also non-binary people can also experience gender dysphoria.
It’s perfectly fine to not understand non-binary people. It’s also perfectly fine not to agree with their way of life, but they still deserve respect just like everyone else
These are SOME Non-Binary problems people deal with
Not every non-binary person experiences all of these, and experiences vary widely depending on where they live, their family, workplace, and community.
1. Being misgendered (being called “he” or “she” instead of their correct pronouns).
2. Having people insist they must be either a man or a woman.
3. Constantly having to explain what “non-binary” means.
4. Being asked invasive questions about their body or medical history.
5. Having their identity dismissed as “just a phase.”
6. Being told they’re “confused” or “seeking attention.”
7. Seeing forms that only offer “Male” or “Female.”
8. Struggling to find gender-neutral restrooms.
9. Facing discrimination at work or school.
10. Hearing jokes that mock non-binary identities.
11. Being deadnamed (called by a former name they no longer use).
12. Having the wrong gender marker used on official documents.
13. Family members refusing to use their correct name or pronouns.
14. Feeling pressure to present in a more traditionally masculine or feminine way to be accepted.
15. Being excluded from gendered activities or spaces.
16. Having strangers assume their gender based on appearance.
17. Being stared at or judged for gender expression.
18. Experiencing online harassment or bullying.
19. Having healthcare providers make incorrect assumptions.
20. Difficulty finding clothing that matches their identity and fits comfortably.
21. Having their identity debated by people who don’t know them.
22. Being told they “don’t look non-binary.”
23. Having others confuse gender identity with sexual orientation.
24. Feeling pressure to educate coworkers, classmates, or relatives.
25. Worrying about whether it’s safe to come out in new environments.
26. Being excluded from conversations because people don’t understand their identity.
27. Seeing little or inaccurate representation in media.
28. Having their pronouns ignored even after correcting someone multiple times.
29. Facing religious or cultural rejection in some communities.
30. Having achievements overshadowed by debates about their identity instead of their accomplishments.
It’s also worth remembering that these aren’t universal experiences. Many non-binary people have supportive families, workplaces, schools, and communities where they’re respected. The frequency and severity of these challenges can differ greatly depending on factors like location, legal protections, social support, and individual circumstances.
Thank you to buzzing pop I wouldn’t have even known it was international non-binary people’s day.
