So, weāve had some bad news, Being Human fans, but we shouldnāt be too sad. Weāve had 5 series where it looked like there would be none, and the creators knew it was finishing and have put together an epic final series.Ā
It looks like the mythology is going to be more important than usual this time. How the BH world works has fascinated me since I first shivered at Andrea Riseborough as Annie talking aboutā the Men with Stick and Ropeā that greet the newly deceased in the pilot episode.
Iāve put together a list of everything I can think of that we know / is inferred about the supernatural world in the show. The stuff in italics is stuff that Iām not sure of, or is likely to be just my reading of it.Ā What do you think, people? Have I missed anything? Am I flat out wrong? I think my opinion that BH vampires are fundamentally evil might be controversialā¦
Made by the Devil, immortality in exchange for souls
Hurt or repelled by religious iconography, particularly if it is deliberately used against them, unless they are very old
Can survive without blood,Ā but given time will inevitably fail
Souls that donāt get a Door because of unfinished business or turn the Door down
Turning the Door down seems to bring additional power
What was up with Annie when people could see her?
What did Annie do to Kirby? No Door for him.
Need familiar surroundings / people or they fade away -Ā no Door
Can be exorcised.Ā Some exorcisms need a death to open a Door, some donāt seem to (like the guy who haunted to football stadium toilets singing Iām Forever Blowing Bubbles.
Donāt seem inherently evil
If the Door is blocked, but will re-die and get a Door once body deteriorates enough
Fully sentient, no apparent personality changes (no brain eating), not inherently evil
Children of a demon and a human
Not inherently evil -Ā so they have a soul? Get a Door?
Must exist because succubi exist
Pursue ghosts who turn down Doors
Seen by everyone who dies, including vampires
Can influence our world through electrical gadgetry, imitate dead people and posses bodies
Also refer to themselves as black-winged rascals
Seem pretty malevolent at the very least
Gateway to purgatory,Ā and possibly also heaven
Pretty bad - seems mainly comprised of bad memories down an endless corridor, often with men with sticks and rope.
Then there was the place Annie was trapped with the endless form-filling and beings (sticks and ropes men?) who got angry with her - was that a different version of the same place?
Vampires can go there if they step through someone elseās Door
Existence inferred: some people seem happy with the Door such as Annie and Gilbert
Strong influence over humans, including possession
Weakened by entrapment in a human vessel
Some awareness of supernatural world (Kempās outfit, some relatives, the men in grey, the government)
