Hero of Philanthropy
[The Media Personality that greatly influences me is Angelica Locsin. Angel Locsin Colmenares was born on 23rd of April, 1985 in Santa Maria, Bulacan. Since at the age of 14, Angel Locsin lived with her father, Angelo Colmenares, and has no contact with her mother, Emma Colmenares. She studied at St. James College in Quezon City for her primary education and finished high school at the UST High School in Manila. In 2007, she attended a short-course for fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Despite being of Christian faith, she is a part of a Muslim Royal Family in Marawi City in the province of Lanao del Sur through her mother.
Angel Locsin was discovered at a shopping center by a talent scout. She then auditioned for several commercials and was supposed to be a part of ABS-CBN's Star Circle Batch 9, but failed to sign a contract because her father opposed the idea. Later, she became a contract star of GMA Artist Center, first appearing on the second season of the teen-oriented series. She is best known for playing the Philippine superhero “DARNA”, because of her great acting skills there her showbizness offer, increases. And with her upbeat and often inspiring personality, Angel makes friends easily and attracts people from all walks of life. She has a way with words and an uncanny ability to motivate others. Having a heart of gold made her famous too.
I often see her on the Television like interviews, commercials and I saw her last 4 months ago on her action drama “The General’s Daughter”. I often see her too on Facebook and Twitter when there are netizens saw her helping on those affected of calamities, donating goods.
One of the writers at Forbes named her as one Hero of Philanthropy because she donated 15 million pesos for educational scholarships for students, supporting the economic and political rights of indigenous people, and for violence against women and children. Recently, Angel donated 1 million pesos and distributing truckloads of relief supplies to victims of earthquakes that struck Mindanao in October. She is an angel not just by name but in selfless deeds.
She influenced me to help those who are in need that no matter how high your status in life never forgets to help. We don’t need a cape or superhero costume to become a hero, showing a simple act of kindness towards others can be called a hero. We need to have humanity, to stand what is right, and to end the violence against women and children.
