Welcome back to Mother Fan Games Museum.
Mother: Rain of Stars, better known as ‘Mother ROS’, was a fan sequel project that also fills the gap in the saga.
It is about a blue-haired boy who was very cheerful until the night he lost his family. Three years later, a meteor crashed into his village, leaving him breathless.
What you see has very colourful details and graphics that almost capture the natural style of the saga, and the characters are adorable with very unusual names.
Todennin Aaron Ruofitxis, a boy with a heart of gold.
Clarabell Celeste Toppaz, a sweet and sour girl with a soul of silver.
Roy Glen Bluinvi, a handsome gentleman, but a nerd at heart.
Phoebe Rachel Tealleaf: A dreamy and passionate artist, but full of shyness.
He also offered designs of enemies with a very fun style, nice battle systems, and some features.
The creator launched the ‘Screenshot of the Week’ on his forum to show the progress of the project and how people advise that there are things to improve.
He also made songs via Tumblr.
Also, do you remember Porky's Galactic Strike and The Return of Darkness? Apparently, the three of them belonged to a group of Mother fan games from Latin America.
He used to have a Discord server, but it's gone now.
This project seems very promising.
Unfortunately, however, during its development, this fan-made game turned into a terrible tragedy. How did it fail? Regarding the developer, let me tell you the sad story of Mother ROS:
(Please excuse any grammatical errors, English is not my native language).
The game originally ran on RPG Maker XP in 2016, to test its playability.
A year later, bad luck struck: RPG Maker XP became corrupted, and worse still, all the files were lost.
So, it was announced that the game would be transferred to a new engine, RPG Maker MV, and start from scratch. Despite this, this engine is very different from the other versions. For example, instead of scripts, they use plugins for programming, the tiles are now 48x48 instead of 32x32, and to upload songs, it exclusively uses Ogg Vorbis files, not WAV, and finally, you can play it on your mobile device. The creator added some plugins such as the fishing mini-game and diagonal movements.
Months later, ANOTHER stroke of bad luck: the engine fails again. It's not RPG Maker MV, but the Game Tester; the screen froze completely.
He did his best to fix it, but there's no faith, so he moved again to another engine, RPG Maker VX Ace, which is like XP but much improved and advanced at the same time. On top of all this, the creator used the EB Essentials engine to test his occasion.
In 2019, after his cruel suffering (he was fighting with the other developers, and the creator started the drama on his forum, but it has calmed down now), he finally announced that the demo was going to be released, but he delayed it again because of this:
Yes, there was a problem with the name screen; the letters did not appear, so he omitted that and decided to continue with the default name of the protagonist. And as if that were not enough, he mentioned that there was a glitch with the enemies; something was wrong with the HP/PP box, among other things.
Ironically, he promised to release the demo in August, but he failed again. Fortunately, a user wanted to help him.
After much anticipation, the creator finally announced the demo, but for real, Sunday, 8 September was its release date.
Everything was going well until someone reported that the game was encrypted, meaning it launched with everything and the files implemented by the engine. The creator launched the encrypted version, which was the worst mistake he made. The user who helped him mentioned that the game is encrypted from the game files. I understand that the creator did this so that people would not edit it. The situation went from bad to worse, and the creator decided to cancel and delete the demo from existence, as there was no other way to fix it. Despite the misfortune, the creator had other ideas in mind. He planned to switch to another engine, leaving RPG Maker behind in favour of Game Maker, as RPG Maker had been a disaster for him. So he created a new thread and made a fresh start.
His experience with Game Maker went very well, but it would be a very difficult challenge, and hopefully he won't fail again like the previous ones.
On 1 June 2020, he announced that he is going to pause the project. I understand that he is focused on his new Rom Hack, which is also in development. He is not cancelling it, just taking a very long break until he finishes his other project.
Years passed, and there was no sign of life, nor was his Rom Hack alive. I think it was quietly cancelled, due to something in his personal life or something that was difficult for him.
In 2025, someone found the demo and uploaded it to another site dedicated to the series, EarthBound Eternal, which surprised me that they found it.
However, who knows if the game is still alive in the hands of its creator. Let's hope that one day it comes to light to clarify the situation.
