what to do when everythingās a mess
Wash your hair. Donāt worry about all those articles online about the best haircare products of 2019 and whatnot, get in, wash it like you usually do, get out. Leave it to air dry, itās less work for you.
Brush your teeth. Even if you brushed them this morning and are probably going to brush it tonight, do it anyway. Especially if itās exam time, all that tea or coffee youāre most likely downing (props to you if you only study with water) probably makes them feel kind of gross.
I know most of these lists tell you to run a bath, but letās face it, for those of you who even have a bath in the first place, the thought of filling that tub and sitting there in complete silence for a couple hours seems like a trek. And ironically exhausting. So instead, just brush your hair, take a nap (set a nice soothing alarm) and once youāve gotten out of bed, wash your face or at least splash cold water on your face.
CLEAN clean clean clean CLEAN. Easier said than done, but at least start by clearing one messy component of your area; it could be your floor, your desk or your bed. You donāt need to clean and re-organise your entire room marie condo-style for you to actually have a reason to take the time to clean in the first place. A little goes a long way, and you donāt ALWAYS need to do the hard yards ya know.
I would say read a book, but sometimes your brain is melting or buzzing so it canāt really focus on anything lengthy. So instead, find someone reciting a poem online, and just listen to it. I recommend Jeremy Irons and his voicing of tons of T.S Eliot poetry, or Allen Ginsberg reciting his own poetry (Howl is a classic).
If youāre one of those people who drowns their sorrows by listening to music, donāt listen to music!! Donāt reinforce your pain!! So to that I say, listen to a podcast. If the classic podcast genre of true crime is a little too stressful and youāve already cried twice today, listen to interviews with actors, screenwriters and directors. It can be really refreshing to listen to people you already enjoy the content of talk about their work. I recommend Awards Chatter and Happy Sad Confused.
Stop staring at screens! Just physically sit outside for a bit, you donāt need to go for a jog or do a general workout, justā¦sit. People-watch, try and memorise the exact scene in front of you, from the mis-en-scene to all the colours and sounds and the way the sunlight feels on your eyelashes. Write it down if you want to, you could even denote a single notebook to your little outdoor descriptions. Or just write on a napkin. To each their own.
Have you eaten today? And I mean something hearty, something that isnāt primarily made out of air and salt. Something that falls under the umbrella of snack does not count; meal is more like it. If not, eat. Preparing food might feel exhausting, but soās going a relatively long amount of time without something nutritionally substantial.
If youāre feeling emotionally heavily, get out a notebook or even just a scrap of paper, a pen and cry until your eyes are as blurry as can be. With tears down your cheeks, scribble out how youāre feeling. DonātĀ bother with how neat or messy it is, whether the sentences even stay on the lines, itās not about being aesthetic. In fact, itās about being as messy as possible. Let all of it out, and let is act as a physical manifestation of whatās going on in your head. Donāt fight it or deny it, relieve yourself by both constructing and understanding yourself.Ā
Physically I'm here but mentally I'm living in an old, abandoned castle running around in silk gowns.
reblog this if youāre a university level studyblr
most of the ones i follow are high school level and i need more people my own age/education level!
- a lifeguide for students with anxiety - iāve been struggling with anxiety for more than a decade. needless to say, i know what itās like to be in a school system when your mental health isnāt at its best. itās easy to get discouraged and give up on your studies. iāve been there as well, but look at me now, iāve graduated from a bachelor degree, a master degree and iām even doing a second one. IT-IS-POSSIBLE. if i did it, you can do it as well. so here, i picked some of my best tips that i wish iād know sooner when i got to higher education, when my mental health failed me. x prioritize i canāt stress this enough. P R I O R I T I Z E all your tasks. itās easy to be overwhelmed with work, emotions, pressure. so whenever you feel like youāve got a thousand things to do but donāt know how/where to start : list everything. as soon as youāre done with your list, pick three colours : one for important tasks that need to be done asap one for tasks that you have to do but arenāt a life or death question one for tasks that can wait/less important once itās done, mark your important tasks with numbers: one for the most important, second for the second most important etc⦠this method will help you to know what youāve got to do first and help you organise your brain.
x use the pomodoro method being anxious means procrastinate then worry about procrastination because youāve got a lot to do but also struggle to focus because your mind is thinking about something else⦠itās an endless spiral. the pomodoro method is well-known amongst studyblrs but it is really helpful when you canāt focus. 20 minutes of work, 5 min break, repeat it 4 times then give yourself a bigger break. honestly it worked for me. i go full hardcore mode for 20mn, and iāve never been more productive. + bonus tips : my mind wanders easily, so i also use an extension that blocks websites (forest is the best!!) it helps me to stay focus.
x when itās too much, stop it youāve got to submit an essay, you havenāt got much time left but you canāt work. you canāt work because youāre too anxious, because youāre scared, because you want to give up, because all of this, is getting too much. did that ever happen ? donāt force it, youāre not going to be more productive, trust me on this one. instead of crying your eyes out on this essay, give yourself a break. have a shower, talk to a relative/friend, cook something, go out for 5 minutes, scroll your tumblr timeline, do some breathing exercises, do something else. when youāre feeling a tad better, come back, write down everything that is currently making you anxious and split them in two: what can/canāt be solved. and then write down solutions, even long terms ones. once itās done, you should feel a bit better, enough to go back to your work.
thatās all for the real real real tips, but hereās some bonus that i do as well: - listen to classical/relaxing playlist - use earplugs when i need to be super focused - always keep a notebook nearby, itās helpful to write what youāve got in mind - ask for help. never be scared to reach to someone when you canāt do it anymore, itās important. - remember to take time for yourself as well, sleep is important, so is staying hydrated.
i know itās not much but those tips helped me get through my dissertation and honestly i would have done so much better if i had known those lil tips before.
take care, - aly

So the second anatomy exam is finally done and to be completely honest with you I feel more like a stone than human rn (weird analogy i know but it is what it is lol) Thankfully I passed and I wonāt have to see the library or an anatomy book for the next few days before it all begins again :)
iām really, really sorry to do this but iām terrified and we desperately need help. me and my mom are homeless along with the both of us being disabled and immunocompromised. we both have a hard time functioning at all and recently my momās health has been declining by a lot. sheās also having trouble with one of her kidneys and will most likely need surgery (weāre still figuring out if and when itās just taking awhile). itās also starting to get to freezing temperatures. i know itās a lot to ask but we need help keeping a place to stay for awhile. the cheapest place around is $45 a night. i just donāt know what else to do i donāt have a lot of hope surviving the winter right now. literally any amount helps and reblogs are extremely appreciated. thank you.Ā

There are stories only you have to tell, because there is no one who looks at the world in the way you do. There is no one else who listens to the whispers tucked in a soft breeze or understands the wilting petals whimpering. There is no one who feels the earth in the way you do. You are the one.
