The Art Institute of Philadelphia observed the Day Without Art in support of World AIDS Day. Our windows were blacked out save for a small bit at the bottom. A poignant reminder of the importance of art in our lives and the lives lost to AIDS.
A piece of the AIDS quilt was in residence at The Art Institute of Philadelphia and on view in our Chestnut Street display window through December 2nd.

Two exhibition galleries, live music, and Art Institute of Philadelphia culinary students serving great Campbell's products: Harvest Orange tomato soup, Chicken with White Bean soup, SpaghettiO's, Pepperidge Farm cookies, Goldfish crackers, and V8.
This exhibit runs through December 11, 2011 in the 1610 and 1622 Chestnut Street Galleries.

On Tuesday September 20th 5-7 PM in the lobby of 1610 we are hosting our 1st Gallery Talk, part of a series of three lectures related to our current exhibit in both galleries 1610/1622 Chestnut of “Campbell’s: 142 Years of Design, Women, Soup and Warhol.”
The 1st talk “The Life of an Archivist” will be given by Jonathan Thorn, Corporate Archivist of Campbell Soup Company. Jonathan will discuss his function, his mission and the art of preserving various historical artifacts from ads, to photographs, to dresses (see 1610 windows). We expect the talks and the discussions to be fascinating, educational and lively.

Campbell's: 142 Years of Design
Women, Soup, and Warhol
For the first time, Campbell Soup Company is making a large number of the most iconic items found in its archives for public exhibition. The exhibit seeks to communicate the contribution and influence that women have made throughout the Campbell's history, from mothers to workers to leaders.
A few of the objects on display will be:
Vintage advertisements from the 1900s to the 1980s
An unique collection of vintage soup can labels
Antique Campbell's Kids dolls
An original paper 1960s paper Souper Dress
Red Dresses created as part of the Go Red for Women campaign with the American Heart Association. These dresses were worn by celebrites including Toni Braxton, Lorraine Bracco, and Jane Krakowski. Also original design sketches and dresses created by contestants on Project Runway.
The exhibit also includes vintage photographs and multimedia presentations with commercials and radio advertisements, a film chronicling the creation and rise of Pepperidge Farm and it's founder Margaret Rudkin, and a Red Dress presentation. Jonathan Thorn, Campbell Corporate Archivist, says, "The material found in the Campbell's Archives is not normally exhibited publicly. We are pleased to support the educational mission of The Art Institute of Philadelphia to bring important elements from our collection to a wonderful venue where both students and the public can learn how the relationship between women and Campbell's has evolved in truly dramatic fashion since our founding in 1869".
We will also feature a large, specially built sculpture in our 1622 Gallery window of the iconic Campbell's "C" created entirely of cans of Campbell's tomato soup. The soup will be donated to the Philabundance food bank after the exhibit closes.
This exhibit will open on August 15th and close on December 11th.

"Delicate Bits and Pieces" pairs the work of Cindy Petruccillo and Jill Galloway Sherman, two photography faculty members at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, displaying images that reveal the personal practices of the artists with work exhibited as drawings, digital collage, and photographic murals.
The exhibition will be on display at The Art Institute of Philadelphia's 1622 Chestnut Street Gallery from April 15 through July 29, 2011.
Artist's Statement: Jill Galloway Sherman
Included in the show will be both pencil drawings and digital collage work. Whimsical collages of tea and panties and line drawings inspired from imagination and memory act as my own visual diaries. The pieces are created from a place of production, routine and everyday life.

Artist's Statement: Cindy Petruccillo
My recent works confess my dependency upon personal rituals, vices and superstitions. I am creating visual descriptions of these concepts; all of which may control, push, motivate, threaten and permeate my daily process of living. Using pretty, colorful and even child-like simplicity, I am masking obsessive behaviors in polite displays, unlike the intensity in which these habits manifest themselves in my mind.
