 In unit 1,I learned about The Nature and Structure of Academic Texts, Structure of Academics is where we can identify the structures of paragraphs,essay, and also research papers.And for the Paragraphs there are 3 types of it and these are Topic sentence,Supporting sentences, and Concluding and/or transitional sentenes.Topic sentence is a  sentence that expresses the main idea of the paragraph in which it occurs.Supporting sentence is a sentence with information that supports a main idea. Transitional Sentences is the one who bring out the logical relation between ideas.And also we have a Different patterns of development enclude: Illustration,Definition,Classification,Comparison and Contrast, and Process.Furthermore, there are also 3 types of essays the Introduction, Body, and Conclusion, this is the best process to have a good and right way to wrote an essay.
In unit 2 we tackled about Thesis Statement and Outlining Academic Texts. Thesis statement is usually appears at the conclusion of the introductory paragraph of a paper. It offers a concise summary of the main point or claim of the essay, research paper, etc. It is usually expressed in one sentence, and the statement may be reiterated elsewhere.And thesis statement have a characteristics which can shows your stand on an issue,it answers a question,It makes a claim that can be disputed, and also it is a sinlgle sentence at the start of your paper that presents your argument to the readers.
Outling Academics Texts An outline is an ordered list of the main points of your essay. Outlining helps you define and organize your topic and subtopics so that you bring the reader on a logical journey from your thesis, through your supporting evidence, to your conclusion. It can assists the writers to organize the main idea of the topic, paragraphs to make understanding, and assure that the paragraph is fully developed.The term "outline" refers to a summary of the main points or a drawing of something's perimeter. One way to outline is to write down all of the important details of a planned novel before you start writing it. Trace the shape of a cat before filling in the details in a painting as an example of how to outline.Â
In unit 3 we talked about What is a Summary and Techniques in Summarizing a Text, A summary is a condensed version of a longer text, such as an article or book. Summaries are usually one or two paragraphs long, depending on the length of the work to be condensed.Summarizing a text is a distilling its essential concepts in a paragrapg or two. Typically a summary has a Two goals and this is to reproduce the key ideas and points of a text, And to express these concepts and ideas with precise and specific language.And also in previewing your text we should not skip the title,Consider the subject matter,have information about the author, Where was this text originally published,When was this text originally published,Read the chapter titles or the headings that section the article or text, and Why has your professor assigned this text. A summary is a shorter and more condensedform of a text, and this is a good practice tofollow when conducting research or studying.Techniques in Summarizing texts First, use some of the previewing techniques before skimming. In your first sentence, mention the title and the author. The author's thesis, or central concept, should be stated in your own words in the first sentence or two of your summary.
In unit 4 the lesson is all about What is Paraphrasing, and Techniques in Paraphrasing Texts. Paraphrasing means formulating someone else's ideas in your own words. To paraphrase a source, you have to rewrite a passage without changing the meaning of the original text. Paraphrasing is an alternative to quoting, where you copy someone's exact words and put them in quotation marks.Characteristics of a good Paraphase is relays the information from the source text in your own words, leads the readers to the source of the information. Example, Airah will go to bohol next year, Next year,Airah will go to bohol.And also Paraphasing by changing words is a Changing a part of speech allows writers to replace words with a new part of speech, suchas a noun to a verb or an adjective to an adverb.And techniques in paraphasing texts  read your text/paragraph and ensure that you understand it. Write down your ideas without looking at the original. Use synonyms or change the word order of your sentence. Compare with the original to see whether you are conveying the same meaning.
In unit 5 we tackled about Citing Sources of information and Different Citation Style ,A citation identifies for the reader the original source for an idea, information, or image that is referred to in a work.In the body of a paper, the in-text citation acknowledges the source of information used.At the end of a paper, the citations are compiled on a References or Works Cited list.A "citation" is a way of informing your readers that some of the information in your work came from a different source. It also provides your readers with the information they need to locate that source again, such as:information about the author, the work's title, the name and location of the company that published your copy of the source, the date your copy was published, and the page numbers of the material you're looking at.There 3 different types of Citation styles and these are APA (American Psychological Association) isused in education, psychology, and the socialsciences,MLA (Modern Language Association) isnormally used in the humanities, and Chicago/Turabian style is often used inbusiness, history, and fine arts.
