Fully Self-Evaporating Portable Air Conditioner
If you want to avoid emptying your AC water tank, get a fully self-evaporating portable air conditioner!
Window Mounted Evaporative Cooler
You can save money keeping cool in hot weather with a window evaporative cooler instead of an expensive air conditioning unit
Portable Air Conditioner No Vent
For a sensible, low cost cooling solution, an evaporative or swamp cooler is wrongly called a portable air conditioner, no vent. But it’s not a real AC at all, is it?
Ventless Air Conditioner
A ventless air conditioner sounds impossible because air conditioners produce both cold and hot air. The hot air must vent outside via a hose or duct, right?
Self Evaporating Portable AC
When the day has arrived that you're tired of draining an old free standing AC, maybe it's about time you went and bought yourself a fully self evaporating portable air conditioner, because these babies do not need to be drained!
Are Portable ACs as Good as Window AC?
If you can window-mount, you’ll likely have more success cooling a room with a window AC than with a portable air conditioner.
You may be able to locate comparable portable AC units to the ones that have to be wall or window mounted. However, you’ll likely pay more for them.
While portable ACs are meant to be easier to move around (they’re on wheels), they tend to be noisier and can be larger than their window mounted counterparts. Also, because of the exhaust hose necessary for venting, they are less portable as one may believe.
Portable AC units use up floor space, so it’s important to ensure you have the extra square footage available for one. You should place the unit away from walls so that the airflow is not restricted, but that may mean a longer hose and more space taken up.
This is another drawback, as portable units require the exhaust tube to be removed and re-installed in a window vent fitting each time it is moved to another space. For the correct efficiency, you need to be sure the exhaust hose is as straight as it can be as kinks can limit the air flow and effectiveness.
Do Portable ACs Need to be Vented Out a Window?
Yes they do! A portable AC will not work correctly without an exhaust hose connected to a window.
They must be vented to the outside because they extract the hot air from the air that you want released to the outside of the room. You can choose to vent the unit through a window (most common), or through a wall, the ceiling, or even an external;ly opening door in theory.
As there are no ventless portable air conditioners without exhaust hoses, you may choose to consider an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) if you want a portable unit with no venting hose to the outside. These require a large amount of water to cool the space but are ideal in dry climates where the humidity levels are low and the air is hot and dry.

The Trouble with Cooling a Small Kitchen
My next door neighbor decided that his kitchen, which is actually very small, needed a complete AC facelift. As he had some handyman skills and wasn't afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty, he decided that he was going to revamp his kitchen's cooling system all by himself.
Well, he probably should have done some research and read up on some small kitchen cooling ideas before he got started, because things just went from bad to worse for him. He had no trouble ripping out all the old fixtures and appliances, but when it came to refitting the room, his problems went from bad to worse.
They started with all the units and worktops being an inch or two too big, so nothing fit. He had to cut things up and that made it look bad. Then he discovered he hadn't accounted for the water inlets and waste outlets, so he had to end up calling a plumber to fix things, which turned out to be pretty expensive.
He had a nice stone floor laid which got all scuffed and marked with the plumbing alterations and to add insult to injury, when the new fridge was delivered, it was a half inch too wide for the space he had made for it!
Then in went the cooling unit and extractor, but nothing seemed to go right and it wouldn't work once he'd finished installing it. Another call to an HVAC engineer resulted in getting it fixed and working but it all ended up costing more than it would have done if he'd got the experts in to do the job in the first place. I bet he wished he had planned things a little better before he got started.

I Wanna Be Cool!
Yup, I wanna be cool this summer, at least while I’m indoors. Outdoors I can cope with the sun, especially if I’m relaxing on a sunbed for the purpose of improving my tan!
I like having AC but it’s expensive to run, so I compromise with a swamp cooler for those times when it’s not quite hot enough to need the AC and the swampie does a good enough job of keeping me feeling human.
So, I get what I want and I want what I can have and I know I can have cheap cooling because that’s what I got! Cool!
