Bridgerton S4 - Polin & LW

loved seeing the promo and Ep1 screen shots this week. I see there is quite a bit of discourse regarding Colin’s storylines this season. I think we need to wait for the show to actually air before being too discontent, but the answers given by Luke in interviews would suggest that his role this season is basically to be a happy husband. I guess that’s not wildly dissimilar to Anthony’s storyline in S3. I think it’s also worth remembering that both L & JB were doing secondary filming projects during their follow on seasons, so a lesser presence is to be expected.

One disappointing narrative I have seen in comments is that the LW plot is at the expense of Polin time and should be minimised. I have to disagree with this. The LW plot has been the binding thread throughout the seasons and is integral to the show as a whole. I like the direction of the pending plot and think it’s actually very socially pertinent to today’s culture. Themes being explored:

• Pen’s sudden ascent to fame and how she will navigate that having been pretty invisible her whole life and an introvert at heart. • Managing external expectations and projections on you, whilst trying to stay true to yourself.

• How to manage the dehumanising nature of fame, where people treat you as entertainment and expect you to perform for them and their chosen narrative.

• pressure from above (the QC) and keeping control of your professional choices.

• Balancing being a wife and mother with a professional career and being the more successful partner in terms of career.

I imagine Nicola can take some real life experiences to inform her acting choices when playing this plot for Penelope. This is the only Reel to Real storyline I can see for our actors.

As for Colin, maybe this season will be about showing what a secure, supportive husband looks like and that is his character development. I hope he gets more screen time with Violet and his siblings. I feel like S5 will be his moment to shine again though and the tables will turn as he gets his side plot.

They need to insist on Jake being gay in order to disprove that he’s with Nicola. There is no logical reason for a PR relationship. Regardless even if Nicola is not with Jake there’s nothing to prove she is with Luke either. Even if Antonia is not with Luke (like they also like to claim) there is nothing to prove he is with Nicola. Jake and Antonia are not deterrents for Nicola and Luke being together. If they wanted to they would have already.

So many so called fans say such horrible things about the people they supposedly are fans of whenever something happens that rocks their shipping fantasy. Please just unstan Nicola and Luke and find something else that brings you happiness instead if you are so upset with them.

Exactly Anon. Even if you take Jake and Antonia completely out of the picture, there is still no signs at all that Luke and Nicola are together. They’ve had years to make it happen if it was meant to be. Nicola has been clear that they are just friends.

The hateful comments about them all when they simply show their truth is very spiteful. It’s also complete gaslighting behaviour towards the four of them. Blaming them for something you created and ran with. Gaslighting 101.

You still have not provided the evidence where Nic was directly quoted saying the twink was her boyfriend. Note his friends called him a twink and not me. There is also an interview where he was asked while doing press for WIFLFAG on how he would describe being queer on earth to an alien. Without hesitation he answered the question. How would a straight man know what it is like to be queer o earth. That would be very presumptuous of him. Another example is an interview I came across when he was doing press for Renegade Nell where is said he would throw Louisa in front to shield him out of fear. You can go watch the interview for the details. What kind of man would do something like that?

Let’s break break this down for you since you clearly have comprehension issues. He was doing promo for a show about transgender and relationships within the queer community so of course he is going to get and answer questions about that topic. That does not automatically make him gay. And nothing more needs to be said about that. Now onto Renegade Nell. If you’re gonna quote something quote it right. What actually happened was they were talking about using the whips and doing the scene in the first episode where he and Louisa have a fight using the whip. What actually was said in that interview was that the person teaching them how to use the whip showed them what it sounded like and cracked the whip once and it made a very loud sound and he placed Louisa in front of him and he was laughing because he’d only known her a week at that point. Unlike you he doesn’t subscribe to toxic masculinity. Maybe if you pick your knuckles up off the floor occasionally you would understand that not all men have to be burley and macho. They can be protective when needed, but don’t have to show it all the time. Sensitivity is not a weakness. I would tell you to self reflect a little bit on how you’re hurting the queer community by making these claims but let’s face it you don’t have the maturity to do that. 

Thanks Anon. Poor old @Truther1235 is busy screaming in to the void, ‘but he IS gay, he IS gay’ 😂. Dropping all the stereotypes as she really needs to pop Jake in that box so the fantasy can continue.

Jake vacations with his ‘bestie’ - oh he’s hanging out on a gay beach and with gay men, he must be gay’

Jake goes on multiple trips away with Nic - ‘oh, let’s ignore that or even better, say it didn’t happen’

Nic directly quotes that that she and Luke are friends/just friends - ‘we’ll ignore that.’

Nic confirms in an interview that she’s with Jake - ‘hang on, we know we ignored her last direct quote but we need one now or it isn’t true’

On and on. To end on a positive - Jake’s new play is selling out fast. Happy, thriving people.

from experience you will not get anywhere and it won't be a constructive conversation with bigots like that account in your comments and any other account that speaks that way. they are hell bent on proving jake is gay and no amount of reasoning with them is going to change that. i like the idea of having an open discussion but that would mean the people discussing with you would be able to be mature enough to examine things from more than one point of view and have the ability to critically think which many of the jake is gay group can't do.

I fear you are right. Surely they can’t all be like that? I’m mostly blocked by the the most extreme bloggers so that’s a blessing! I’ll see how it goes but if it’s constant bigoted replies - I’ll switch comments off. Not interested in providing a platform for that. Thank you for your sensible and kind advice.

Winning weekend for Nic.

Decided to write my opinion on my own page rather than be insufferable in other people’s comments sections 😊. I’d always thought that these blogs invited discussion or debate but I think for many, it’s not what they’re looking for and I’m not here to ruin other people’s escapist spaces so I’ll try to write my thoughts here instead. At the same time, if you do enjoy a bit of debate/critical analysis, I’m happy to engage. We’ve had some barren months here with nothing new to chat about so I welcome having new things to yap about.

So, WHAT A BLOODY BRILLIANT WEEKEND!!!! for me, this weekend has been just great. the leaking of Carriage scene 2.0 was very exciting. I loved seeing the Polin chemistry back in full force. I’m hopeful that Pen and Colin get a good amount of screen time and I like the direction Polin seems to be taking. It’s got me really excited for S4. I’m also so chuffed that Polin content still does so well online as I feel like L & N really give their all to the roles. The fact that the baby Elliot post has surpassed 3M likes is so cool and I am sure we’ll get viral Polin moments after the release date.

BIRTHDAY GAL! I loved Nicola’s dressing room selfie - she looked happy and beautiful. The Polaroid was easier to see and I loved that she’s willing to share more. It made me very happy to see Nic celebrating with her friends. One of the things I really like about her is the interesting mates she has. Jack Rooke is so funny and his bday post to her was lovely. Her girl gang picture was awesome - very cool women and I love that Nicola has such close friendships from different phases of her life (who she then seems to introduce to each other and they become pals). Speaking of which, she had newer friends there. Once again, supporting and hyping her and showing friendship.

And then we have Jake. Now I think he’s likely been in Manchester this week as it’s opening night in 4 weeks and he has started to follow some of his cast mates for Road. I wasn’t sure he’d travel back this weekend but there he was. A Lukola account spotted him on the Friday at the NT and we know he was there on the Saturday. The clip of him jumping up to clap and cheer had me melting. I just love that Nicola has someone who adores her so much. Once again, he’s really frustrated some Lukola accounts as he’s quietly shown up to support her but no PR angle for them to critique. Instead, they take offence at the timing of his bday post and his chosen photo (these are the same women who are quick to point out that Luke won’t have posted online because he’s spoken to her in person - they don’t apply that same rule to Jake). I trust Nicola’s judgement in most things - acting choices, social issues, friendships…… there’s no reason not to trust her judgement in a partner and she seems super happy and content to me.
