PARTY IN ANTIVa.
"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.
"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"
"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."
"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."
"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.
"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."
"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."
"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.
"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.
"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."
"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."
"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."
Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate this simple little Tumblr story I've had bookmarked forever for class.
I hope you like it :]
i got inspired by a Julien Missaire photo
It's Anders week and I haven't drawn this guy in ages, so please have him :')
For @andersweek2025 Tender Tuesday: Cats / Love / Safety
sometimes plushies make me cry because it’s like. they’re little guys made to be loved. their only purpose is to be held and hugged and loved. we made them because we love making things and we love loving things. and they’re so cute
Years back, I was working at a specialty store, and we got this HUGE crate of plushy toys. They were all insanely cute and squishy. I knew kids would go nuts for them, as it was the first week of December, so parents and grandparents often had kids with them while shopping for furniture, lamps, cooking equipment, lights, etc.
One night, I was working my last hour of my shift covering the Customer Service desk, which meant when I wasn't busy, I was supposed to help clean up around the cash registers, including taking back items people changed their minds about at the checkout. Earlier, I had witnessed a kid carrying thos cute plushy toy. It was a brown and white hedgehog. The kid, at the checkout, saw a remote control car and he told his dad he qanted it. The dad told him, "The plushy or the car- you can't have both" (by the way, I respect boundaries with kids and parents sticking to their guns about it), and the kid picked the car.
So, I'm cleaning up, have less than an hour left of my shift, and I see the little plushy hedgehog. Somehow, he never got put back nor had anyone else seen him and decided to buy him. He was just sitting there, slumped to the side, unattended.
It's Christmas and I'm a sentimental old sap at heart. My brain starts replaying the scene from RUDOLPH where he's on the Island of Misfot Toys, and is told a toy is never truly happy until it is loved. I picked him up and quickly took him back to the bin with the plushies but... It was empty. He was literally the last plushy toy and my boss was about to wheel the bin out. We weren't getting any more toys till November, so that meant any toys left at this point needed to sell or they'd be sent to the dump.
I brought the little hedgehog to the front, figuring someone would see him with the candy, candles, & Christmas brick-a-brack, and fall in love with him. When I finished my shift, I went to ask my manager a question and as I passed the Christmas candle display - there he sat, the sad little slumped over hedgehog plushy. No one had bought him, or even moved him.
My manager, Phillip, saw me and the hedgehog. He asked how the hedgehog got there. I told him how I'd put him there when the bin got sent back, and he was the only plushy left. Philip had kids, I figured he'd probably get sentimental and buy it for his kids. Nope. He shrugged and said he'd send it back to be disposed of.
That night, I came home with a plushy hedgehog in my passenger seat. My mom saw him and just thought he was the cutest little hedgehog and asked what I wanted to do with him. I told her the story, then added I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with him.
My mom is a child psychiatrist, specializing in children with PTSD and brain damage that results in learning problems/issues with processing their emotions. She asked if she could have the plushy hedgehog (even offered to pay me for him, she didn't expect me to just give him over), so kids could hug him when they were upset in session.
Murphy, the plushy hedgehog that still slumps a little to the left when seated, has been hugged by hundreds of kids. Little girls have held him tight while explaining about bullies, little boys have held him tight while crying over their panic attacks, younger siblings have held him to whisper secrets while elder siblings and parents talk about self-soothing techniques, teenagers have hugged Murphy while talking about the worst day of their lives. Murphy has also been hugged by kids excitedly chatting about a new friend at school, a teen girl excited to be called by her name instead of her dead-name, little kids proudly saying they've mastered their ABCs, and even staff members who just need to come chat over a case they are having trouble with.
Every now and then, my mom brings Murphy home for a weekend. He gets washed (she calls it a Spa Weekend, to her coworkers, all of them laughing), dried, and sits outside with my mom in the sunshine to get aired out, then on Monday, they are back to work. Some kids even just ask to hold Murphy while they talk, no matter their mood or what they want to talk about. They just want to hug Murphy.
So yes. Plushies are made for one purpose. To be hugged and loved. To be a comfort.

Me trying to say something to my partner about some cool fanart I just saw on my dash.
Him: back up back up, what the FUCK is Mouse Effect.
Lizardsex I love you...
The burning question of course is whether everyone is mice, or just the humans. Like are the salarians little frogs or is it Mice and Mice With Blue Tentacles???
sorry im absolutely too floored by the fact you just called me 'lizardsex' to give you an answer
... I see now your name is probably Lizards Exposed and not in fact Lizard Sex Posed.
This exact phenomenon is why there’s now a hyphen in my url.
had a bad low blood pressure moment last night and messily asked my partner for saltines and water before realizing i should probably ask for the Blood Pressure Medication I Need To Take. while they went to go grab it though i still had water and crackers so in a daze i took a swig of water but didnt swallow and then tried to cram 2 saltines in my mouth. full of water. in bed. with mouth full of water

we know that the illusive man hand-picked the sr-2 crew to be inoffensive to shepard’s sensibilities, to lull her into a sense of safety, going as far as to recruit outside the organization specifically for shepard, e.g. gabriella daniels and donnelly. but the ship is twice as large as the original normandy. more than a few would have come from cerberus’ existing ranks, and then for the new hires, there’s the factor of how many truly liberal-minded people would even join cerberus for any reason. which means most of the crew would likely fall in the ‘progressive about some things, not so progressive about others’ category.
which brings me to my second point: the dossiers were all approved by the illusive man, but i don’t believe that anyone knew who archangel was. the illusive man could have manipulated shepard a whole lot better if he’d known. i don’t even think they had any data on him beyond what he’d accomplished: sniper, commander, guerrilla warfare. i don’t think anyone other than garm knew his species. bringing a turian on board was not something that people knew would happen.
personnel might have been vetted to keep their cool about a variety of aliens living on their ship, but humans and turians have a uniquely tense rapport, and no one said anything about turians before suddenly there’s one getting rushed into their med-bay for emergency surgery.
garrus says they’re all working together, everyone’s been polite, and we can take him at his word here. but it’s a lot more fun not to. things to consider: 1) if they’ve all been polite while he was in medical recovery, that doesn’t mean something doesn’t change the moment they realize he’s there to stay as a squad member rather than just a temporary patient 2) being polite to his face doesn’t mean they don’t harbor any resentment, just that they haven’t been overt about it, which could also change at any time 3) garrus has reason to downplay any side-eyes or unpleasant encounters; the last thing he needs in his situation is to get booted off the team for his own well-being and left alone in the wreckage that’s his life with no purpose beyond avenging his team.
ultimately, garrus is not the kind of person who lets his guard down easily, especially not after what just happened to him. omega might have been a more dangerous place to be, but all that means is that he’s confident he can handle whatever a bunch of non-combatant humanity-first xenophobes can throw at him. what he says to shepard — he literally says, don’t worry — feels like it’s entirely meant to put her at ease, stop her from thinking about it. if you look at it that way, it fits with way he’ll withdraw, hole up in the battery and entertain no conversation about how he’s feeling.
maybe any suspicion or hatred he glimpses on a crew member’s face is really in line with how he looks at himself during those months.
#There's a scene if you romance Garrus where he's talking about them waiting so they don't distract the crew#And idk that always struck me as confirmation the crew actually wasn't chill with him
oh you know what, i’d never viewed it from this angle but you’re right, you could totally take that as confirmation and i love it. i think this is my favorite interpretation of this line now. i will take conflict over fluff any day
It's my cat's birthday (anniversary of me getting him) so I told him the story of his life while petting him real good
Highlights include:
For your first two years (when you were small) you lived in a foster home with people who raised you into a very polite young man. Two is like you plus me, that's what two is.
Some people adopted you before me and they called you Timmy (which is a stupid name) and they returned your ass almost immediately because you were so annoying at that age.
Like think about how annoying you are right now at seven years old, but way worse.
I'm better than them though, I don't call you Timmy and I wore earplugs to bed for three years because you love to scream at bedtime. Earplugs are like when I roll over and go back to sleep even when you are yelling so so so loud.
I got you at a time in my life when I was really sick (being sick is like when I'm up late because I'm throwing up and you are a very handsome good boy who sits with me) and they had to put me asleep for a procedure. A procedure is like what happened to you when they put you asleep and took your balls away.
Now you've lived with me for five years. Five is like the number of toe beans on one of your feet. When I clip your nails five is when we're halfway done. But we're hopefully not even halfway done with how long we get to be together. I'm gonna have to figure out new ways to help you count.
Actually I've decided this is a poem
