axolotl help!
i posted the other day about my axolotl but i wanted to make a new post with more details i guess.
so i used to keep my axolotl in a 10gal tank w/ sand but i went home for break and took him with and moved him into a 30gal tank w/ no sand only glass. the next day I realized that his gills were very different, they didn’t have the usual color and weren’t placed how they usually were. He also hasn’t ate since the move. I’m assuming it’s all stress related because of a new environment? The parameters are all good and i have items in his previous tank to try to make him comfortable but I feel he’s even more stressed though he’s been moving more in his tank.
Due to him being stressed I am also stressing out which in turn is stressing him out even more I think. I left him in the 30gal the first night and then most of the day, then i moved him into a smaller container with no filter and one hide and nothing really changed. I then put him back into the 30gal but used a filter meant for a 10g in the tank to see if the filter output helped but the lack of water movement made him surface more (UGH). so now I have him in the 30gal still, with something covering the filter and another item somewhat stifling the filter output. I know moving him around so much is definitely not helping but I was/am panicking but I probably (definitely) need to chill.
Is there any advice? I plan on going out soon to buy sand but besides that any help? I don’t think it’s an illness just stress but I want to help him acclimate if possible or to know if he is sick or something. I’m worried about him not eating too, though he did poop twice so far since the move.
TLDR: Axolotl moved into new tank thats a bit different from before, seems really stressed, i need some advice/suggestions.
Thank you! (also thanks to the other person who mentioned the sand before in the previous post)
