8 April 1980. Derby Hall, Bury. My sister took these photographs from the stage at the (now) legendary Joy Division ‘riot’ gig in Bury, England. To the best of my knowledge my sister’s images are the only photographs taken that night. No audio recordings have surfaced to date. About five of us traveled from Chorley to see this gig, thirty miles away. (Pete Hook got us in as the gig had sold out. I would have been 15.) The supports were Section 25 and Minny Pops. Ian Curtis only performed on two songs (‘Decades’ and ‘The Eternal’.) Curtis took his own life six weeks later on 18 May, 1980.
