Classical Piece of the Day - day 14

Claude Debussy's Nocturnes

I'm currently studying the first movement of this this piece (Nuages) for the 20th Century part of my music A level, but I adore all of them with all my soul. Unfortunately, the joy is being sucked out of it as I have to memorise my annotations for every bar before Wednesday :(

The three movements are named: Nuages ("Clouds") Fêtes ("Festivals") Sirènes ("Sirens") and they're quintessentially impressionist pieces, giving "impressions" of storm clouds, a vibrant fair and sirens singing at sea respectively.

Inoue Yasuji - Nocturnal color woodblock prints from the series True Pictures of Famous Places in Tokyo. Inoue Yasuji was the best student of Kiyochika Kobayashi and could have become a great master of Japanese printmaking of the Meiji era. But instead, he died at the age of only 25.

Castro Neon Heart

I was selected this year to paint one of the famous Hearts in San Francisco to fundraise for SF General!

The Castro blade sign has always been a beacon for me, as it is for many walking through the Castro at night, enjoying the glow that reminds us that the city cares about community, history, and elegance. In preparation for my upcoming solo show, I became obsessed not only with this iconic sign, at this pivotal moment in its history, but with all the neon signs that serve as beacons guiding us to our own sense of community.

This heart is on display at the Ferry Building with all the other beautiful hearts that were made this year! Go check them out, they are on view until February 11, and available to bid on right now through the SF General Hospital Foundation!

This subject fits in perfectly with my BEACONS series, opening on February 6th at Queer Arts Featured!
