Hey all! So, my first (and so far, only) character is Cas Kelly, a firefighter who’s known to be pretty damn chill, happy to share a joke and a beer and whatever change is in his pocket… but also as someone you don’t want to cross or piss off, because that dent in the wall in the bar? Yeah… you don’t want to see what happened to the guy Cas threw into the wall. (Maybe. People exaggerate…) Not only does this distinguished older gentleman come with his own baggage, he comes with various connections in the form of family, loved ones, friends, and people he barely knows. And if you’d like to know him closely (or not even), boy do I have a ton of ideas for you! Cas will do his best to support his kids no matter what, but he still might get it painfully wrong. The youngest child of the Kelly household has only just turned eighteen. Like her father, she’s finding it hard to come to terms with her mother’s suddenly throwing herself into the arms of some woman they barely know, but it’s up to whoever takes her where she derives most comfort. Be it from her mother her father, or her friends. She may be somewhat troubled due to her mother’s distance while she was growing up, or she could be the most well-adjusted young woman in the world. She is smart, probably the smartest of her siblings, and she has big aspirations. Again, in what exactly is up to whoever wants to play her. She’s likely very different to her father, who stopped being able to help her with her homework pretty fast.

The middle child of the Kelly household wants to be a boxer. This is up for debate. He never really cared for school, largely due to Middle Child Syndrome to a ridiculous level, and might be a tad overdramatic. He might even blame his dad for mom’s affair(s). Cas sometimes wonders what he did wrong raising the boy. Maybe he has some secrets of his own he needs to come to terms with. Maybe an affliction (as soft as smoking to kleptomania to anything a billion times worse) he’s been battling with due to feeling neglected as the middle child he can’t bring himself to resolve.

The eldest child of the Kelly household is the most distant from her family, and yet she’s also the one who seemed to just know about Mom’s infidelity. When it was revealed to her that Mom had a lady love of her own, she did little more than shrug, claiming it to be inevitable. She is awfully pragmatic and behaves as though she can keep her personal feelings distant from any issue. She may or may not be seeing someone. Whether or not she bothered with college is up to whoever takes her but I feel like she’s a practical sort of woman. If she did undertake education after high school, she may be an architect or engineer of some description, or a graphic designer. But she is an affectionate woman. Just because she’s living independently and keeping herself out of her parents’ problems doesn’t mean she’s not fiercely protective of her siblings, even if she does sometimes miss important cues. She loves her parents but she feels like whatever’s going on between them is just that - between them. She’s their child. She doesn’t need to hear anything more than she knows.

Cas’s ex wife, whom he still adores, even though she broke his heart. Her love for him burned out years ago and she stayed out of a sense of duty to her children, and now the last is ready to leave the nest, she’s making a new home with her female lover. She’s a vivacious, feisty, loud woman, which attracted Cas in the first place. She’s kind and sweet, but she can be selfish and flighty. She cares about her children and she still has a soft spot for Cas, but she’s fallen head over heels for her new lover and her wanderlust is as strong as ever. She has been a distant mother in the past decade or more though, preferring moonlight rendezvous with random flings and secret outings with friends. She’s always been the person in the family pushing the next move onto something new, and now she realises she was trying to escape what she considered to be a dead end. She’s not a bad person or mother, but her family relationships may be pretty rocky. Cas still adores her and wants to be there for her, and she always has her new lover to fall back on.

The lover. Given Cas’s ex wife’s propensity for the daring, this woman is probably every bit as bouncy and excitable as her, and unashamed of her position in the breakdown of Cas’s marriage. In her opinion, Cas is boring. Even his name fills her with ennui, and she feels like she’s liberating her lover from a dull retirement. She’s thinking cruises, adventure holidays, skydiving, anything you can think of that sets the adrenaline pumping. She probably has a travel-related job that allows her some level of indulgence.
The face I would pick might be out of the age range, but Mary Louise Parker is just one suggestion of many. Don’t feel like you have to be tied in to a general Mary Louise Parker look. She can be represented by anyone at all.
