âA-ahââ The tool felt unwieldy in hands that had more practice at keyboards than at real manual work. âIâm not sure-â
But Stark wasnât listening. Sinking down in front of the pile, Q tried to imagine what on earth the pieces could belong to. The first thing that came to mind was a computer: one of the few things Q actually knew the schematics for. Perhaps it was part of a⊠Tiny organ? A cymbal-clapping monkey? Was it even casing, or was it a machineâs innards? He had no idea.
The cyber-engineer picked up a few pieces and tried to fit them together, turning them this way and that as he tried to make sense of what they might do.Â
The task was simple enough he thought. But as simple as it was was it was also fairly important part of his construction of a much larger scale of what the little device he was getting help on. If put together wrong, he would have a much harder time putting in the wiring that would need to go in and wiring was such a tedious job all on it's own.Â
"Look,-" Howard said as he rolled over in his chair beside the other. "All it is is a circle." He began to put a piece next to the other as they went together perfectly and screwed them together. "See?"Â
Howard smiled and handed the man back the screwdriver. "I'm sure you're smart enough to figure the rest out, yes?"Â
::-007reporting
âAs I said⊠simple task. Of course I know how to work a screwdriver. What do you need help with, MrâŠ?â
"Stark. Or if you prefer to more...casual, call me Howard." He smiled before he was off finding what he needed. He ended up in a small area not far from his soon to be helpful guest moving a few boxes out of the way before he yelled back over to the man. "There is a metal box shaped box on the work table. I need you to take it apart for me. I...miscalculated on a few things and need to start over. Can you do that simple task for me?"Â
:: Hello
âHoward?âÂ
"That's me." Howard smiled walking over to the other man, patting him on his shoulder. "It's been a while."Â
:: Hello
âUm, My name is Jo Rohart.â Jo tilted her head. The man said his name was Stark, and he looked an awful lot like Tony.Â
"Well, Miss Rohart It's a pleasure to meet you."Â
:: Hello
"Howard Stark. And who are you?"Â
"Bucky? Is that you?"Â
âŻ
Natasha took his hand gently. âOkay. Howard. Can I ask you a question about your job?â She dropped Howardâs hand and placed her hands on her hips, keeping a straight face. âWhat happened to your first assistant?âÂ
Howard watched the woman intently before he answered her question very seriously. "My first assistant? I've had many assistants before you my dear." Howard raised a brow and smiled. "Why do you ask?"Â
âEr, I think Iâve used one. Once or twice. The battery casing on my laptop got stuck.â The memory seemed to be a painful one. Q put out a hand. âThe Quartermaster.â
Howard looked at the man's hand and sighed. "Howard Stark, nice to meet you now since you're so familiar with one of these you can give me a bit of a hand. I'm on a deadline." Howard dropped the screwdriver in the man's hand and walked over to box full of scraps that needed to be put back together "Perhaps you can put this together Think of it has a puzzle. Put the pieces together and you should be able to be fine."Â
ââŠ.I got bored. I like to wander.â
"Wandering isn't the best thing for a...good looking woman like you to be doing at this time of day."Â
âI didnât necessarily call you a grouch, sir,â Gemma calls back up. âI just merely stated that you were in a grouchy mood. And yep! I sure did say Stark!â
Ignoring the grouchy comment he stayed on the fact that she said her last name was Stark. "And who exactly are you related to?"Â
::-theterriblyprivileged
Tony furrows his brow and narrows his eyes at his father. âN-no.. You died.. I was at your funeral⊠Am.. Am I going crazy?â
"Oh no, I did die. Technically my heart did stop. But is doesn't mean that it never started back up." Howard shrugged. "I'm a Stark, Tony. You know we have our ways of always getting back in the game."Â
âHoward Stark, correct?â The Russian called up.
"That would be me."Â
:: Hello-seeing-the-truth
âYes, well, writing reports on things you have video footage of can get a little boring,â She rolled her eyes.
"You have to get up in the world some how." Howard chuckled and gave her wink. "Luckily I had my smarts to do the work for me. But then again I was always good looking. So that also helped. In it's own way."Â
:: Hello
âOh, yes. The man who found me when I was a baby. He raised me like a son, but never actually adopted me.â Archer shrugs. âBut he was a man of science himself. I mean, not your kind of science, but he respected your brilliance and tried to raise me to be like you and Tony intelligence-wise. But I honestly donât think I can be as genius as you, sir.â
If Howard was humble enough he could have blushed at the boy's compliments, but instead he decided to give him a bit of advice. "Any one can be a genius Just in a particularly different skill set." Howard smiled at the boy with a nod. He knew Tony could take after him with his smarts but he was in the end blessed by the fact that Tony took on the interest in Howard's own field of science.Â
âWhat? Iâm not allowed to just say hello?â She smiles a little bit. âNames Gemma Stark, sir.â
"But the fact is, Darlin', you didn't even say hello. You called me a grouch." Howard yells down at her from the windows."Excuse me did you say Stark?"Â
