I'm a slow artist, but I have drawn a few pics of the main characters from The First Sin… Check them out!
Tårik is forced to give up everything he holds dear after a disastrous assassination attempt. Rejected by society, he struggles to find new honor and a new future. But fate has something else in mind…

Even though it took me almost 7 years, overall I enjoyed writing The First Sin. Getting feedback as I scribbled was probably the most valuable part of the experience because it helped me feel like what I was doing was worthwhile. Now it's going to be published and that's surreal.
Ready for Launch in 3, 2, 1…
On September 23, I revealed the official cover of The First Sin to the world. I think it’s absolutely stunning. Jeff Brown is the artist and he did a phenomenal job with the painting. Tårik is the character in the image and he’s in a lot of trouble: the enemy is amassing in the distance and the ship in the background is a smoking ruin. I’m so grateful for the reception the cover received. Everyone who has seen it so far on social media and elsewhere seems to really like it!
Sharing the cover means I’m one very real step closer to releasing TFS into the world. It’s on GoodReads and StoryGraph. The ebook is also listed on a wide variety of online retailers for preorder, like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and others. I even put it up on Itch.io! The paperback and hardcover editions are slowly propagating to online retailers too. I’ve ordered a supply of books for myself to sign and sell, and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. TFS releases on October 23, 2025.
Am I ready for my book to be out in the world? As a first-time author, I’m both ecstatic and terrified. Sure, I’ve had my writing in the public eye before, from having written fanfic back in the day, but this is different. Really different. This is a real book that I have poured my heart and soul and tears into (although, I do wonder right now if I ever did actually cry while writing TFS? I can’t remember). It’s also a real book that I have spent a not-small amount of money on. It’s not a mainstream novel by any means and I knew going in that it probably won’t appeal to a lot of people. Even though I know that, and know that it’s okay that it won’t appeal to everyone, this is still the part that makes me scared. Of course I don’t want the book to bomb. Of course I want people to enjoy it. And yes, getting a little bit of fame and fortune wouldn’t hurt my ego one bit! But if people decide they hate it, if I get a lot of bad reviews… Well, of course that would hurt. I’m not without my insecurities. I worry what people will think. (I know, reviews are for readers and authors aren’t supposed to read them. And yet, we’re also supposed to use them in our marketing. How to do that without reading anything, I wonder…)
But I think I’m more ecstatic than terrified. Surely, if the terror was greater, I wouldn’t have actually pushed that “publish” button. I want to share this story. It’s been with me for an achingly long time and it deserves to be told. If I don’t tell it, nobody else can. These characters need to live. They deserve fans who love and hate them. They deserve to be art, to be perceived, to be talked about. Now is their chance and that makes me happy. Hearing people say they are eager to get their hands on a physical copy just blows my mind, but it helps reinforce the good feelings. There are people who want to immerse themselves in the world I have created. They want to support me and see me write more of this story! That’s incredibly gratifying. My heart rate ticks up when I think about it.
Less than a month remains until release day. I still have a lot of work to do between now and then, but when the actual day comes around I plan to do a livestream on my Twitch channel to celebrate! I’ll read from the novel, select the winners of the preorder giveaway, and generally aim to have fun with everyone. I hope you’ll join me there!
Everyone who preorders The First Sin can get swag! It’s my way of saying thank you for your support of my book baby. ☺️

THE FIRST SIN COVER REVEAL!!!
Extra special thanks to Jeff Brown for this stunning painting of Tårik on planet Berwen.
TFS is my debut novel, my first book baby, and I'm so excited to share this with all of you!
One day left! ARE YOU READY??? If all goes to plan, the cover reveal for The First Sin happens TOMORROW!
I'm so excited!!!
There are SO MANY people who helped contribute to this book over the last (nearly) seven years of its development. I can't list them all here, but there's a 2.5 page Acknowledgments section in the back of The First Sin. Thank you all so much!
FOUR DAYS. Oh my gosh, I can't believe it's so close.
Blurb:
In the sweeping expanse of the Årdrakin Empire, the people fight and die for honor as elite warriors of the galaxy. But long ago, a prophecy was spoken that presaged the apocalypse. Everyone knows and fears the truth: one day, the empire will fall.
Tårik is a guard for small, independent Clan Tsinna. Instead of pondering the end of his civilization, Tårik’s greatest concern is maintaining his honor while escorting a group of impertinent dignitaries across the treacherous Barren Gale. When the Mother Goddess speaks a passage from the prophecy to him, he has the good sense to be frightened, but he doesn’t heed the significance of Her visit.
Then disaster strikes, and Tårik is branded as an exile, leaving him with no home, no honor, and no future. Forced into a desperate struggle for survival, all Tårik can focus on is living just one more day until luck—or maybe fate—gives him the opportunity to join a new clan. But even this is fraught with danger and uncertainty, and it takes him to an inhospitable world far from the empire where survival seems all but impossible.
Faced with new challenges, including trying to navigate first contact with the low-tech locals, Tårik believes the prophecy can’t reach him. Yet it continues to loom, signaling that his fate and the fate of the empire are irrevocably entwined.
This is a dark, spicy, adult science fantasy set in a world that includes war, violence, and other mature themes that some readers may find disturbing. Reading guidance can be found at the beginning of the book or on the author's website.
I've been asked about paperback and hardback copies of The First Sin. Yes! I will have these, including signed copies available from me directly. The hardback will have a full dust jacket too! But both will become available a little later on. Soon™!!!
6 DAYS TO GO!!!
In just 8 days I'll reveal the cover of my debut scifantasy novel, The First Sin. I'm so excited! And on that day, ebook preorders will open on a variety of platforms. There will be swag available for everyone who preorders so keep an eye out for that!
The First Sin releases on October 23, 2025. By the time it arrives, it will have been 6 years, 11 months, and 3 days to plan, write, edit, rewrite, edit (again), revise and then finally publish this book baby. That's 2529 days! Holy shit.
10 DAYS to COVER ART!
I dream a dream where, one day soon, readers will have The First Sin in hand, whether via ebook or print, and some will choose to carry it with them on their daily commute or to a vacation spot. They'll read it and they'll love it, and they'll say, WOW LOOK AT THAT COVER.
The days are passing by! Just 16 to go before I reveal The First Sin's cover. On that day, preorders will go live too! I'm getting things ready across various platforms.
Newsletter subscribers and my AOS Insiders will see the cover a few days early! 👀 https://akairondragon.ca/books/newsletter/
The Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championship is open for submissions!
Hurry! Hurry!
Thinking about TFS preorder incentives… 🤔
I can’t do much, but I’d like to do something!
