“Thank you Niamh we’re so thankful for this!” Veladrys’s voice echoed out as he and Koh were leaving their home. Niamh had offered to kit sit for them as they went on a very much needed date night.
“Oh you’re soooo welcome!!” She waved as she closed the door. She went over to the couch to pull out her tome from her bag. She brought some crafts and snacks for the twins. Both age of six, the girl being named Lhili and the boy named Koh’a. She cracked open her tome when her ears flicked hearing soft footsteps in her direction. Her hand quickly lifted as she blocked an oncoming object met with a loud squeak. A toy axe, modeled exactly like Vel’s!
“Ahh I had a feeling you two were hiding from me”
“Awe you’re no fun pretty lady!” The girls voice rang out. She stood up and pouted while her brother trailed behind his sister. Niamh giggled as she put her tome away
“I appreciate the compliment but flattery won’t get you outta this!” Niamh smirked as she turned to look at both of them. “Your parents asked me to watch you so I’m gonna!”
“Wellll okay I guessss auntie” the girl stuck her tongue out as Niamh paused. Auntie? That felt too old sounding. “How about you call me Tia!”
“Tia is a miqote surname” the little boy finally squealed out
“Ah in turali it means aunt! I like it better because auntie feels…old” Niamh laughed as the boy nodded.
“Well aren’t ya old anyway!!!”
“Uhh I’m not a grandma Lhili”
“Old old old BONK BONK” the sudden bonk to Niamh’s head from the axe surprised her. She just blinked at them and stood up.
“I appreciate the bonkin but you gotta do what I say” Niamh laughed as the twins blinked at her
“Aaannd what if we don’t!”
“Well I brought nuggets shaped like chocobossss sooo you should behave”
The twins eyes grew wide, pupils dilated as their tails wagged behind them. If one thing pleased a child it was chocobo shaped nuggets.
“I thought so” Niamh laughed as she ruffled the kids hairs. “Come on! I’ll hear them up!”
“Did you bring some for daddy! He likes em too!”
“DUH I would never leave our papa Vel” she laughed as they entered the kitchen. Niamh pulled out several nuggets as she placed them on a tray along with some popoto frites and popped them into the fire stove. While they crisped up she grabbed three plates, shuffled into the ice box to pull our ketchup placing the ketchup on the table. The twins watched in awe at the table as she worked in the kitchen. She wasn’t as talented as Kaito but she knew how to woo an audience.
With a small ding of the kitchen alarm, Niamh grabbed the tray and equally distributed nuggets and fries so it was fair and even. She placed two plates on the table and covered the third one with a warm cloth. Niamh scribbled a note for Vel as the kids clapped their hands.
“It’s hot but eat up okay! We can play and I’ll even brush your hair lihi!”
“You’re gonna brush my haiiir???”
“Duh! All pretty ladies brush their hair before bed, it’s how I keep mine soft” Lhili and Niamh bonded and she loved spending time with the twins.
“Koh’a, are you still wanting another tome? I brought one about fish! My friend Dane suggested this one for littles” Niamh smiled as Koh’a nodded
“Well eat up you two!” She clapped as both kids went to work on their meal. While they were eating, Niamh took this as a moment to pick up toys and pull some crafts from her bag. She brought paper, colored pencils, pieces of fabric and glue as she had these from her studio. As soon as she finished setting up, she felt two little bodies purring against her. She sighed happily as she scratched the twins ears. She never experienced motherhood and due to severe poisoning in her past, it made her barren. She had pangs for motherhood but she could at least tend to the little ones in her life.
“What’s this Tia?” Lhili asked.
“Some stuff for you two to color and decorate with! You could make a pretty dress for your drawing! Or a super cool house or uhh even feel fancy” she grinned as the kids laughed as each started to color and doodle. Koh’a was more of a silent type but sat next to Niamh closely, his tail wrapped around her calf to keep himself safe. She peeked over at his drawing as he drew an underwater setting with lots of fish, a tiny stick figure with cat ears was at end bottom holding a treasure chest. “Nice Koh’a, you really like fish and treasure!” Koh’a blushed as he focused on his drawing. Lhili on the other hand was drawing of what seemed to be herself in a dress that she had glued together riding a very large fat cat with a unicorn horn. She also was holding her toy axe in one hand
“Well aren’t you a pretty princess! And a tough fighter!” Niamh giggled as Lhili nodded
“I’m a warrior princess! With my trusty kitty, Lady snugglekins!” Niamh grinned as she watched the joy in her eyes. She then saw her ears droop down a little
“Some people say I can’t be a princess…princesses can’t be tough” the little girl spoke out
“Well whoever said that is wrong! I’ve seen so many princesses fight!! You can be cute and tough!”
“Can I wear a dress and kick butt with bonk bonk?”
“Anyone who says otherwise is a big looooser” Niamh winked as Lhili laughed and hugged her. Niamh understood that it was tough being a girl, especially a firecracker like Lhili who was discovering girlhood for the first time.
As time passed Niamh helped the kids get ready for bed. She made sure they brushed their fangs and brushed Lhili’s hair. Koh’a sat next to them as Niamh showed him how to braid hair. She gave Lhili two large braids and tied them off each with a little pink bow
“Well enjoy em! It should make sleep easier and you get cute wavy hair”
Niamh smiled as they all plopped on the sofa, Niamh grabbed a tome and started to read them a bed time story. The little alpaca that could was a story Niamh had translated and brought from Tural. She loved this one growing up and it felt nice to share with the kits. As she read on, both twins cuddled into her as they purred softly, eyes heavy with sleep. As she finished reading they were born sleeping soundly. Niamh blushed as she held them close. For a little while…she really liked being a mom. She thought of what could have been had things gone differently when she saw the door open and in came Veladrys and Koh.
“Awww they look so happy sleeping” Koh smiled as they picked up one of the twins. Veladrys grabbed the other. “Thank you Niamh, we appreciate your help”
“Anytime you two! They were perfect little angels”
As she packed up her things and headed out the door. Veladrys paused as he sniffed the air “do I smell…nuggets?”
“Oh yeah! The twins had em for dinner!! Don’t worry I left you a plate Vel”
A soft “woo-hoo!” Escaped vels mouth as Niamh waved goodbye
“Good night my little family”
