Art Skills
Maybe you remember the first post i did on this module called art skills, i finally finished the sculpture of my mermaid. Her hair took me ages to get the way i liked it but now i’m quite happy with it.Â
CGI: week 1
I really enjoyed the first week of the CGI module. It was the first time ever i did animation and sculpting on a computer. At first i was a bit scared that i wouldn't like it or wouldn't get along with the program but luckily i did quite well and it was lots of fun.
Here are some screenshots of what i did.
The first task was to build the interior of a house including light and shadow.Â
A day later we went into Z-Brush and modeled something based on a picture we picked ourselves.
Puppentrick 2
This post will be about how we made the set for our puppet animation.
Our story takes place on a table which is placed in front of a window. if you look outside the window you have a view of a landscape with mountains.
We started off with three wooden panels. One for the table, one for the wall with the window, and one for the wall on the sides. Then we cut out a rectangle to create a window into which we put a frame to make it also look like one. Then i sewed two curtains which we glued on the frame.
I first painted the walls in white so you couldn’t see the wooden structure anymore. Unfortunately we didn't have any acrylic white paint so we used varnish oil paint that didn’t really dry and was really sticky so i had to wait quite a while until i could go on with the next layer of paint.
The second wall.
As it was finally dry i painted it a second time in a light pink. Additionally we handcrafted two paintings we then attached to the walls.
We decided to do it in pink because we wanted to create a romantic and cute atmosphere.
Here are two shots of when we finally put everything together and played around with the lightning.
The background is acrylic paint on cardboard and it’s split up in front and background to give it a more three dimensional look. Sadly i don’t have any progress pictures of that.
Puppentrick
In the past two weeks and also the week we’re in right now we’re in the module “Puppentrick” i don’t know if it’s “Puppet Animation” in English so i’ll just call it the German name for now.
We are a team of three girls and we developed the story weeks ago in the module for storytelling. The idea was to create a really short and simple tale which we can realize in only one week. Our team decided to do something about a cactus and a balloon. It turned out to be a rather tragic love story.
Here are some progress pictures we took while working on our characters.
Kathrin sculpting parts of the balloon @kat-animation
And me forming parts of the cactus.
The cactus and the balloon are made out of Super Sculpy with a core made out of wood.
We painted them with acrylic paint overtop a layer of magnetic paint.Â
We also did the eye and mouth replacements the same way but we used small magnets instead of magnetic paint so they will stick on the balloon and the cactus.
Here’s a picture of them painted.
I’ll upload another post later where i’ll show how we made the rest of the set.
This little project is one of my results of the 2D animation module we had a few weeks ago. Here i had to do an animation of a bag of flour in which i had to put as many principles of the 12 principles of animation as possible.
We had about three days to complete this task. And again it’s black fineliner on paper.
I actually would really like to put sound in this video, maybe i will still do that and then upload it again.
Today i wanted to share some progress pictures of my work from the art skills lessons. The first picture is my character i designed and wanted to realise as a sculpture made out of Monsterclay.Â
I’m not done yet and still have to work on it, though i’m quite happy with how it turned out until now. I worked on it for about 2 hours now. The hair will probably be pretty difficult to make but i’m actually really looking forward to this challenge.
More posts to this project will follow ^^
Another short animation i did in march this year. Originally the task was to do something about the word “pure” but i just couldn’t develop a story that i found appealing so i decided to do something about a mermaid and makeup, which are two things i really like.
We had about two weeks to realize this project. The technique is a 2D animation with black fineliner drawn on paper. Â
This is one of my first animations i ever made and originally it’s a flip book. I made this one a year ago in the module Animation basics.Â
