We’re making progress. We’re still tuning in the new graphics capabilities of Unity 5 but it is really starting to look good. I mean great. No I mean f***ing fabulous. I know I’ve said it a few times but wow. Just WOW. And talk about scary. I left that shotgun messiah and that THING was making noises that were creeping me out. Maybe Unity 5 sounds better too. That feral zombie was screeching and it was dark, really dark… and this game has not scared me in a while, but that feral sent a shrill up my spine. You guys are going to love Alpha 11!
New Atmospheric Effects!
New effects such as smoke and hot embers in the burnt forest, blowing snow in the snow biome, and sand storms in the desert.
Well today I decided to thicken the grass up so I added more grass strands to the grass textures. I then liked how much better the forests were looking and replaced the chrysanthemum texture, and finally the pine forest has its own color spectrum, which basically says what the fog looks like, what the sun color is, among other things. This was in between heavy planning for Alpha 11. I did the plains too, but need to make a few more tweaks before showing it off.

It’s so rewarding being able to make a good looking character. I’m having a blast adding in new colored shirts, hats, pants, etc. We’re about done with Alpha 10.5 and will start testing it very soon. There will be several new hairs, and over a dozen eye and hair colors to choose from, and loads of new color variants of all the clothing we shipped in A10. Concrete is fixed up, we have new candles you can craft from tallow and mount them on walls like torches and you can now get drunk if you can find some beer. But beware of the hangover!
With Alpha 10.2 out of the way we’re working on an Alpha 10.5 targeted before Christmas sometime. It will include more new stores, such as the new pop n pills pharmacy shown above. Also we are adding facial hair, character skin tone selection, new hair styles, color and more!
This is such an amazing game- you all are doing fantastic work and my friends and I love doing our weekly weekend streams and are weekly Lets Plays on our Channels- Thanks for your hard work and dedication!

Alpha 10 patch is near with even more new content on the horizon. When I said after A10 we’d be able to add more content quickly and easily I wasn’t kidding. I added all these new outfits to the game today, and to the loot system. The green pants on the right are called “plant fiber pants” and can be crafted from plant fibers so those who don’t like running around in a thong you can easily make a pair of these now.
The best thing about all these new clothing pieces is they were essentially free to add (no texture, mesh or ram increases). Our new character system allows for coloring with a simple HTML color and boom, new outfit. You can pick any color you can imagine. Maybe later we’ll allow for characters to mix custom dyes to color their stuff with.
I also tweaked torches, you have to make a torch bracket now if you want to hang the torch on the wall. You place that on a wall, then upgrade it with a torch. Since you can’t place a torch directly anywhere now, there is no green focus box anymore, which was kind of distracting when you were standing around with the torch. I also added degradation (to stop the torch from being overpowered) and a stacklimit of 1 to the torch (a requirement for degrading items). For all you about to explode in fury, don’t worry, we’re adding candles to the game you can light your homes with in the very near future, and not long after that electricity and real lamps you can turn on and off. Oh and to top it off you can dump water on yourself (like drinking) now to douse a fire if you are nowhere near a lake or river and some jerk lights you on fire.
Oh but before you say what about all the bugs? Well I just played with Rick for 3 hours without a single bug. I’m not saying there won’t be any bugs after this patch, but I am saying we had a perfect peer to peer game.
Hopefully we’ll have a patch out very soon, maybe even today and hopefully before the holidays so you guys can eat turkey and kill walkers!
So we wanted to release today, but found an animation bug that was sporadic where a player wouldn’t see other players animate, and it took most the day to figure it out. We fixed it, but we wanted all hands on deck before we released it in case there were any problems (our European partners) so we postponed the release until Saturday and tested all night. We found one more bug, and the heat map somehow isn’t working. So hopefully that’s an easy fix, we’re wanting to release tomorrow afternoon.
Well here’s the pimp fort, or what we could build in 7 days. In the last shot you can see the horde invasion. I don’t know what happened, but they tore through our base and had me on the run in the lake. RIP madmole and Kinajuu lol.
Even without heat map zombies, we got our asses kicked. Should have had some spiked traps and made some ammunition. Oh well it’s fun to learn from our mistakes, and adapt to new challenges. That fort would have easily held up in a9 or previous builds, but the AI is so much better now. They didn’t go for that one door I had by the trussing they were crawling all over the fort hitting us from various angles. I retreated to the last oh shit room and that was it, they breached it in seconds. I ran for it, tread water swimming away from dogs all night, went back at dawn and got a little over confident with my sledgehammer and got tagged, stunned, surrounded and became zombie food. Good times though. I hope you guys enjoy this build as much as I have.
These pictures tell a story. A10 nearing completion. It’s very tough if you make stupid mistakes. Early on I got too confident and went to the wasteland just to get a few things. You know, a short metal pipe, maybe a leather tanning book and some extra jars. Just a few things on the outskirts of the wasteland nothing serious. So I’m pretty well scoring big, I hit some cars, found a pickaxe, I hit this new gated parking lot with walls that had a steel door where the ticket guy must have worked and found some nice loot in there. I had a frame to get over the wall because you can’t jump over two high walls any more. I got out of there and was heading back when I get attacked by a dog, I kill it with my iron club I found but two more show up and I’m toast.
So I’ve GOT to get my stuff back. I go back in and somehow my backpack is in a tree. I must have died right next to it and the code decided that was the closest place to where I died and put my backpack way up in a tree. So I’m making a stone axe and trying to chop a tree down and a zombie snuck up behind me, tagged me and the next thing you know that dog comes back and I ran up this huge destroyed buiilding dirt pile (another new cool poi) but the dog eats my face.
I tried one more time got killed again. This time I spawn so far away I’m near some grasslands so I decide to forget the wasteland I’m already max 70 health from dying three times and its getting late in the day. I walk a bit and find a nice little cabin I have to have, as seen in the first picture. The problem is, there is a ton of zombies. I thought I’ll just lead them away and poof they will be gone. Quite a few follow me and for some reason (new AI) quite a few just stay behind content to hang out at that house I want. I tried smashing them with my stone axe but I was getting tagged here and there, I’m used to serving so its fast but on another server its a whole different deal.I build some spike traps thinking I can lure the zombies into the traps but I placed one too close to myself and it killed me.
Now I’m heading back to that cabin but its dark. I’m now only 60 max health because my wellness went down another 10 from my fourth death. I’m creeping along the river bank the place I want to be is miles away. A creeper or something come out of nowhere, its pitch black and I’m dead again. Determined, frustrated, but having the time of my life, I gather cotton in the dark and make a sleeping bag. This way if I die or sense trouble I can at least place the bag and not have to walk forever to my goal, that sweet cabin I want.
Now you see the third shot, there was this pretty purple night sky I’d never really seen before (usually I’m roasting meat and drinking golden rod tea by now and counting the zombie legs I’ve collected as trophies sitting in a hand build secure base by now). and I thought it was cool so I grabbed a screen.
I saw a dog, placed my sleeping bag down so I wouldn’t lose my position and jumped into the water. He somehow swam to me and ate me LOL. Anyhow long story short (or not) by morning I was down to 30 wellness and 30 max hp and stamina, the minimum you can get to via death. After all this bad luck, I found killed a nurse and found a beaker!
I made it to the cabin and secured what gear I lost near the cabin. I built my door, looted the place, and cooked up some water and got established as seen in the fourth image. The next day I started a mine nearby, as cooking and forging a lot will draw unwanted attention. I do some cooking at my main base, but for serious stuff like forging loads of iron, lead, cooking grain alcohol and antibiotics where the thing runs all day I set them up in a secure remote area at least 1/8 mile from my main base. You can see my setup in the 5th and 6th shot.
In the second to last image you can see my fort shaping up, I have a hatch to my oh shit room, it goes down a ladder, speaking of which ladders have new improved climb code.
In the last image I went hunting. I got really lucky with an air drop that had all four parts to a shotgun and the book to make it. That is so rare you’d think I had cheats on. I found some dogs at the barn and made them into leather pants :) This was the most fun I’ve ever had playing the game. Its all coming together and working together. I had a little over 50 wellness by the end of the session.
Things are coming together for A10. We’re still fixing little bugs and making tweaks. I know you guys want it, but there are still some little things we need to resolve. We work, we test, we make another list of things we found that need to be fixed and repeat it until things are good. Hopefully the middle of this week we can release it, but don’t be screaming at me if it takes longer. We’ve been busting ass on weekends for as long as I can remember now. It’s awesome though. Its so going to be worth the wait, best build ever.

I’m a big fan of choice and consequences. That is what makes this game fun your decisions have an impact on if you survive or not. Taking risks, should I go try to to loot the wasteland buildings or stay in the wild where it might be safer? Anyhow we’ve added a wellness system that now governs...
New fire effects. Wow all I can say is I never really expected the game to look this good. The new character system and fire, and shaders are taking things to a whole new level once again. This character is actually slightly customized, although I kept thing subtle.
Signs of the apocalypse. Well we’ve started working on some signs for the game to make it feel a little more like a real world. Here you can see a gun store, which will have drum roll….. guns! Or parts and stuff. You get the idea. Basically we want to have some POIs you can recognize and know what you might find there.
