Books read in 2026 #38 - âThe Impossible Has Happenedâ by Lance Parkin.
This biography of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry takes a fact based approach to examine the life of a complicated man.
As such it swings from portraying Roddenberry as a visionary creator, to him being a self-serving narcissist who happily took credit and money from those who helped build that vision into a cultural icon. As a result it doesnât really draw its own conclusions, other than in a passing remark in the notes section at the back that Roddenberry was âan imperfect individual.â
Despite this, it provides an highly readable overview of the development of Trek and how it went from cancelled TV show to one of the most successful franchises in pop culture
