Once again, it seemed that Rose picked an inopportune time to visit the budding new cafe, La Tasse du Marais. Whether it be morning, noon, afternoon, or early evening, there was a line at the counter and not a single table available. At this point, Rose had to wonder whether the popularity had more to do with their food, or the fact that nobody could properly pronounce the name. âExcuse me,â she said as she wandered over to a woman in the outside seating area. The chair across from her was empty, and Rose placed her hand on itâs back.Â
âIf youâre not waiting for anyone, and donât mind the company, I was wondering if I could sit here.â She offered a warm smile. Compared to everyone else, this woman appeared to be the most approachable.
It had been months since she had allowed herself the luxury of leaving the house after her dad had finally passed. It had been hard on her as well as her brother, but it took the biggest toll on her father. Alanna had watched him crumble and become reserved. Sheâd tried her best to bring him out of his depression, but she knew nothing would ever truly change his shift in mood, apart from her dad returning from the dead, that is.Â
Sheâd finally convinced herself that it was okay to go out. Sheâd found herself at a small cafe, simply minding her own business. Well, at least thatâs what she knew it looked like, but she was listening in on everything around her and observing all of those near her. She was so absorbed in it, in fact, that she hadnât notice the woman approach her until she was already pulling the chair out.
Alanna looked up, blue eyes studying the woman closely before she shrugged and gave a smile, nodding. âSure. I mean... Youâre welcome to sit. Iâm not waiting for anyone.â
