Alaric’s eyes weren’t leaving the screens. Strange alliances had suddenly formed in the last hours, and he wondered if it was planned. With the way things were going in the Arena, this Games would last a month. Perhaps he could do something to change it up a bit. Discombobulate the victors. Change the sections. Allow the cats to roam the entire Arena. That would kill them off sooner.
It was starting to get boring, and Alaric knew it. It was a wonder Titus was still alive. The strangest alliance was perhaps, Katniss, Atticus, Peeta, Veronica, Haymitch, Finnick, Annie, and District Seven. It was a large one and of course, each victor had their own other little bonds. What they were doing had suddenly grabbed Alaric’s attention, as well.
Of course, he had his own camera focused on Atticus all throughout the Games, keeping his own eye on him. He wondered if he was going to trick them all and kill them the way he killed the tributes in his own Games. It seemed not, only because he seemed to like all of them, but.. One never knows.
It became clear to Alaric that he was actually right. Atticus was going to kill the same way he did back in his Games— but he was’t going to kill the people around him. He was going to kill the remaining few victors left that weren’t in their big circle. So, Alaric watched as the tree was wrapped in wire. He just watched. His eyes were trained on the hands that he so desperately missed. The Gamemakers around him were watching as well, intrigued in what the rest were doing.
Then it happened. The lightning struck the tree. Katniss shot the arrow. The force field blew. Chaos ensued. Hovercrafts appeared. Atticus was taken. Alaric’s eyes grew wide. The control room was in a panic. Calls were being made. Shouts. Explosions in the Arena. All while Alaric’s mind was trying to process what had just happened.
Lightning. Wire. Tree. Arrow. Arrow to the force field. Explosion. Screams. Hovercraft. Atticus. More explosions.
It was all set up. It was a set up. This was going to happen all along. So. The rumours of a rebellion was true. Rebellion. Rebel…. Rebels! The Rebels did this. The Rebels did it. They broke the victors out. They took Atticus. They took Atticus. And suddenly, it dawned on him. Titus and Plutarch hadn’t been back for hours. And they were never coming back. They were a part of this too. It was the only way that this could have ever happened. It enraged Alaric. While other Gamemakers yelled at him, asked him questions, he stormed off and forgot about them. There was nothing he could do now to ensure that the Games would be a success. War had just began. And they took Atticus.
The more Alaric thought about it, the more angry he became. Atticus obviously had a big part in it. And he never told him. That probably hurt the most. He could see why, but still. Atticus didn’t tell him. And he was just going to let them take him away from Alaric. And it hurt.
He didn’t know why they never bothered to cover up the serial number on the side of their Hovercrafts, only that it made it more easy to track them. Alaric found the nearest Hovercraft he could find and commandeered it, determined to follow those— those fiends, and take back what he wanted.
