alicent thought she was doing a good thing by sending daeron to oldtown. in a way, she was right—he’s considered a good boy by most everyone who knows him, and what we’ve seen on screen shows him to be kind and considerate as well—but it’s clear he was raised by a cruel and mercurial man who treats him as nothing more than a dynastic tool, in much the same way otto viewed alicent. he is truly his mother’s son and that is the great tragedy of it all.

so people can in fact see that teenage daeron is being abused and manipulated by an older relative into a position he never wanted but have for some reason been unable to extend the same understanding and sympathy to alicent who went through exactly the same thing at his age……right.
