What's the fascination w/ LADY GAGA!!!
ME (AJ): She is only The Queen of POP, DUH!!!
The entire human existence has come to know the name, Lady Gaga. She is this weird, eccentric, crazy, pop singer who wears outrageous outfits. Some even have claimed her to be a devil worshiper. But yet there are several people, (16,696,304 twitter followers) who are in love with the singer/songwriters and those masterfully manufactured ensembles she decides to promenade the world with, on a daily basis. There are even fewer people (a rare few) who understand why she does the things she does. Who are able, to comprehend the thought process behind conceiving such intricate outfits. I claim to be one of those people who can understand the complex mind of the creative genius that is LADY GAGA.
I first fell in love with Lady Gaga when she performed her first single “Just Dance” in the summer of 2008 on the hit television series So You Think You Can Dance. “Pop music will never be low brow. My name is Lady Gaga. So You Thinks You Can Dance?” was her opening statement. She came out sporting long platinum blond hair with straight blunt bangs, a black leotard with a pointedly shoulder padded red fitted blazer, and black wedge heels with lime-green/yellow straps. Mid performance she brings out her famous Disco Stick. I was intrigued. I was FASCINATED!!!
To be honest, I had never heard of her (at that point in time). By simply looking at her, before she even began her performance, I knew there was something different about her. I remember, while sitting in the kitchen table while watching the show (on this tiny television screen with an antenna) I was calling people over to come watch this performance by Lady Gaga. Even though I had never heard of her name much less her music. The only person who came over was my cousin she watched the performance with me. By the end of the performance she nudged her shoulders and went on with her life. I, on the other hand, was left mouth opened and in awe at the amazing performance I had just witnessed.
So I did what every teen that has found a new fascination does. I went on Wikipedia and YouTube to find out more about this new emerging artist. And I was not let down by what I had found.
I discovered that she briefly attended The Tisch School of the Arts. (For anyone wanting to pursue a career in the arts, you should know that TSOA is one of the top Arts colleges in the country. Also, extremely hard to get into.) At that point in time I realized, she was the real deal. She wasn’t this contrived manufactured pop artist sent forth by the major record labels to sell us garbage music. She was a legitimate artist who had studied her musical craft, in attempts to hone it, only to enlighten us with her brilliance.
The second discovery is what solidified my love for her not only as a fan but also as a fellow artist. Lady Gaga was a Performance Artist, and along with Lady Starlight they performed in various part of NYC to bring forth their creative collaborative yet provocative artwork to the city the never sleeps.
Enough. Lady Gaga 101 is over. Now, every real Little Monster should already know this, and if you didn’t. Then be thankful that this Little Monster (me Albert Jaimes) has been doing his research from jump.
I remember when I acquired her first album, The Fame. I once again fell in love with our immensely talented Mother Monster. I had that c.d. on continuous repeat. (Trust when I say this, my family was very annoyed with me.) But what can a kid do who is in love with their shiny new toy. I kept playing the c.d. until it broke, but I replaced it with an import from the UK (which included songs not released in the U.S.A. (SCORE!!!!)).
As an actor, having studies the Theatre Arts at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I know and understand the difficulty of trying to piece together different ideas and concept in such a way that will aid your performance. All the research that it takes to make sure you are giving the correct information.
So to the people who think that Lady Gaga just throws things together for the sake of shock value? WRONG!!! You are completely wrong. There is thought put into everything that she wears. Every set design has a story behind it. Everything she does, she does it for a purpose. So, instead of closing yourself of to the creative monster that is Lady Gaga. All I ask is that you open your mind to what she is bringing to the world. She is saying it's okay to be different. It's okay to be who you are. She is not only saying this, she is living this.
Now, I do not claim to understand everything little thing that Mother Monster decides to grace us with. But, as an artist I take my time to analyze what she has put forth for us to see. There may be things that I may never understand, that’s totally okay. I appreciate Lady Gaga for being "Born this Way." For opening our eyes to something that is greater. For making us think out side the box, outside our comfort zone.
So if you don't STILL don't understand the fascination with Lady Gaga. At least you can understand my fascination with this New York native. You can see that it goes beyond the music. It goes beyond the esthetic. It delves for our mutual love for the art. Using that art to express our inner most self. And being 1,000% percent committed to not exploiting the art, but allowing the art to flow through us to change the world.
