Tiny gryphon cats, related the the large sentient Gryphons, which caused some contention when the Gryphons mistook the Keetons for chicks that had been stolen by the humans. While that misunderstanding was cleared up, there's still some unease from the Gryphons about humans keeping miniature gryphons as pets.

The Forest and Jungle Gliders of Alcazar are a large serpentine species of pseudo dragon, and are distantly related to the wyverns. Recognisable for their elaborate frills, large narrow wings, and single set of forelegs, the Gliders are a sizable creature and can easily pose a threat to humans. Both types are most commonly spotted sunning themselves, either on large sun-drenched rocks, or across an exposed branch in the canopy, however they are quick to startle and can easily vanish into the trees at the first hint of danger. Difficult to find in the wild, the Jungle Gliders are found around the equator of Alcazar, inhabiting the dense tropical rainforests. They prefer living in the canopy, and only land when hunting and eating, however they are capable of hauling their prey into the tree tops to eat in relative safety. The Jungle Gliders are brightly coloured with vibrant markings and contrasting colours, the males and females are both bright, but the males have a hood and double tail fin, while the females have cheek fans and a single tail fin. Rarely seen, the Forest Gliders are fewer in number, and are usually found in the northern hemisphere of Alcazar, living in the thick boreal and temperate forests. Agile hunters they spend more time on the ground than their tropical cousins, lying in wait and striking quickly at any passing prey, from which they quickly haul their catch into the treetops to eat in safety. With duller colours, the Forest Gliders are more adept at blending in and a frequently browns and greens in colourations, with the occasional marking that stands out from the rest. Both males and females are similar in colour, while males have a beard fin and double tail fin, and females have a cheek fan and single tail fin. At almost the height of a human when standing, and much longer in length, the Gliders are considerable threats to both humans and large wildlife, but there are few recorded attacks on humans. Much like snakes, they bite their prey and coil about it to prevent it from getting away, before swallowing them whole or in large pieces. It becomes difficult for them to fly after a large meal, and hunters of their kind learnt to leave large livestock out for them, before trapping the downed Gliders. Their fine scales are highly sought after for jewellery, clothing, and to be used as pigments and dyes. It was this hunting that has resulted in their considerably low population. The Jungle Gliders are actually very common on the Kaitkuu’s island, due to the draconic people’s respect of them, and the patience to tame them. As such, these large serpents can frequently be found sunning themselves on rooftops in the cities and towns.

The Fiael Harts are a species of large deer, covered in scales and feathers, and have been bred by the Fae for thousands of years. Reaching up to seven feet at the shoulder, the Fiael are perfectly sized to carry the larger Fae, but their delicate builds mean they can tire easily, for this reason the Fiael are mainly used about the city or short trips outside, instead of long distance travel. They are however, fleet of foot and fast runners, which makes them perfect for carrying urgent messages. Their scales are typically found on their faces, throats, chests, and limbs, presumed to aid in protection against predators, but are now bred for aesthetics. The feathers of the Fiael are silky smooth and seem to do no more than add an extra layer of insulation, they are however typically iridescent and vibrant in colour, and the Fae love to collect them and add the feathers to clothing. The antlers of the Fiael are less like antlers and more like horns, they are permanent and rarely have multiple tines growing from them. The Fiael Harts depicted are the Royal Breeds, and are based on a yellow golden pheasant, and a silver pheasant. The gold is used by the Faevin, and has additional extra growths of gem like protrusions on its scales and in the curl of its horns. There are other Common Breeds of duller colourations, but these are not favoured by the Fae, and are used for carrying messages and other menial tasks not suited to the Royal Breeds. Often used as a mount by the Fae.

The Blood Roc are found in the north and occasionally as far south as Reen, they prefer mountainous territories, as their chosen prey are the large mountain goats often found there. It’s rare for them to stray far from the mountains, as their large size is unsuited for flight in forests, and the thermals provided by the mountains aids in lifting their weight. Being the size of a large dog, with a nine foot wingspan, and four inch talons, they pose a threat to most mammals from deer to rabbit size. There is only one report of a human being killed by a Blood Roc and was a result of the human encroaching on their nest, as their eggs fetch a heavy price and are considered a rare luxury. However there have been attacks on humans when mistaken for prey, but none fatal. They have a golden back and top of their wings and tails, but are blood red on their head, chest, and the undersides of their wings and tails.

Species: Gralchen Sub Types: Northern & Southern Ancestors: Bears Size: 20ft (Shoulder) Lifespan: 70 Years Diet: Herbivore/Omnivore – Grass, leaves, berries, rodents, lizards, fish Habit: Forest & Plains Temperament: Wild Status: Common The Gralchen is the largest herbivore on Alcazar, akin to a bear, they are suited to environments ranging from forest to scrubland, and while they can survive in the savannah, the heat can rapidly take its toll. They are also found in the far north, and have grown a shaggy coat of fur to help insulate them from the cold, however these northern variations are larger than their southern cousins. They are rather indifferent to humans and smaller creatures, not seeing them as a threat, and mostly ignoring them. The males are slightly more aggressive, and will approach humans, usually there’s a 50/50 chance of them deciding you’re a threat, so approaching Gralchen is not advised. Due to their territorial behaviour, they’re difficult to domesticize, as the farmland isn’t large enough to provide for their roaming and foraging. Gralchen eat a range of food, from berries, to leaves, to grass, and even entire saplings, they are adept at digging, and can pull up roots for food, and vegetables, their primary diet is plants, and they have been known to eat an entire field of produce. The Gralchen hibernate during winter, and in the lead up to this time, will consume fish and small animals to help add extra fat to them. They’ve been known to head towards farms and eat as much as they can find, in preparation for this extensive sleep. But no one is sure where they go to hibernate, some think they find caves, while others think they dig themselves into the ground. The main predator of the Gralchen is the dragons, dragons are huge creatures and need a lot of meat to keep functioning. The Gralchen is a perfect food source, despite the dangers with hunting one. Typically between two and five dragons are needed to bring one down, but the largest dragons (of the Imperial family) can usually bring one down alone. Their popularity with the dragons is their size, the average Gralchen can grow to between fifteen and twenty feet tall, and almost twice as long. This means a lot of meat is available to those brave enough to attack one. The Gralchen used to be a common sight across Alcazar, however in the past hundred years, their numbers have declined sharply, and no one is sure why. However they are known to be a delicacy, and many humans have attempted to farm them for their delicious meat, and warm fur. Most have failed, which has led to the rise of hunting. However it’s no easy task to take down a Gralchen, and twenty people at least are needed to bring it down safely.
