laughing, antonio moves to meet her on the otherside his arms circle around her waist and pulls her into him. ‘’i’m sorry for running off so quickly. but if royal and sydney aren’t home tonight, i’ll stop by?’’ he says with a grin, winking down at her.

ever since alexandra started hooking up with the male, she felt something come back into her life. she was happy someone wanted to be close with her especially when her own husband didn’t. she smiled over her shoulder at the male, lifting a hand to touch his head. “i’ll have to check in with them. neither of them have been around much.”

‘‘Look, I know this… Kinda looks bad.’‘ He mumbles sleepily, grabbing his shirt and moving to pull it over his head. ‘‘But this was fun. We should do it again.’‘

alexandra glanced over at the male moving from her bed as she kept the covers around herself. she couldn’t help but laugh as he spoke. “we should do it again. all the time. it’s such a shame you have to run off so quickly.”

‘‘maybe i’m just glad it was you.’‘ he murmured, twirling the keys around his fingers with a shrug. ‘‘eh, i think they’re satisfied. sometimes i get told i’m driving a LITTLE TOO fast..’‘ he trails off, fighting the urge to smile as he opens up the door to the drivers side and slips in slowly. ‘‘i’m not so sure about that. i think i’ll drive it.. again.. and again.. and again..’‘ 

“i could have been anyone. you just had to let someone in.” her smiled never faded. it often didn’t when it came to the male. he made her happy in more ways than one. “too fast? that’s not very safe but if you’re rushing to a scene, i guess there are exceptions. you do the job right.” she patted his chest before moving to the passenger side. it wasn’t something she was used to doing. “don’t get ahead of yourself. maybe i’ll let you drive it again. maybe.”

‘‘already spent most of it in my mind. looks like someone found me.’‘ he joked and once she gave in, he nodded in a victorious manner. ‘‘come on, you know–  i happen to be an AMAZING DRIVER. i can get to places quick, and all that. ‘‘ that was why he drove all the time when he worked. leaning over to take the keys, he also leaned in to place a quick little kiss on her cheek. ‘‘well shit, thanks for giving in.’‘

“thankfully someone found you. you could have gotten really deep in there.” she laughed. holding the keys out to him and hoping to god her car didn’t get wrecked. especially with them inside of it. “we’ll see about that. i’m sure all the firefighters and emts are super happy with your driving. even the people you save.” she felt her cheeks redden at the soft kiss. she wasn’t going to complain about that. “this is the only time.”

antonio finds himself genuinely laughing for the first time in a few days. he reaches for the keys again, shaking his head. ‘’then i’ve been all too in my mind lately. i’m glad to have you as company.. or.. just have you with me.’’ he chuckled and reached further for the keys, eyebrows raising as he stares down at her amusingly. ‘’oh come on, the car can’t be THAT MUCH. just lemme drive it to your house, and i’ll never speak of it.’’

alex didn’t really have much to smile about in her life except when hanging out with antonio. even as he was injured, he still made her laugh and feel young again. “that’s too bad. you can’t spend all your life in your mind. you’ll get lost there.” she smiled. “i’m glad to be here as well. with you.” she nodded but kept her arm as far away as she could reach from him. “it was really expensive and i love it.” she sighed, a little defeated. she couldn’t really say no. “one time. that’s it.”

‘‘i don’t like remembering the faces. or.. just anything really. sometimes its so easy to detach yourself from reality when you’re doing the job, you almost forget to come back to REALITY when you’re.. not even working.’‘ he shrugs and turns to her for a moment before shrugging. ‘‘sometimes being alone is whats best, y’know? but i.. i love having company here and there.’‘ squeezing her hand again, antonio moves in closer to reach for the keys. ‘‘ i am – but i want to drive.’‘ 

“yeah, i understand that. it’s pretty common in my line of work as well. except people aren’t dying. they’re being sentenced to jail or being taken from their families if i mess up. it’s upsetting.” she sighed, shaking her head a bit. she hated thinking about that part of it but it was true. that and her life with her husband wasn’t always the best so drinking was her calling. “it can be. except when you’re all in your mind.” she smiled, trying to keep her keys away from him but failing completely. “this car cost more than anything.”

‘‘y’know usually after a rough day like this i’m home alone sulking and getting drunk off my ass– to where i don’t even remember what i do the next morning. but i’m.. kinda glad to have someone drink with me. it’s kinda nice, i like the company..’‘ he trails off, sliding his hand back down to take hers and leading her out to her car. he gave a half smirk and took in her car before turning to her. ‘‘can i drive? or is it to nice for my driivng skills?’‘

alex was all too familiar with the statement coming from antonio’s mouth. that was basically her life. “yeah, i know that feeling. sometimes it was for the best. i wouldn’t want to remember parts of my life.” she exhaled, keeping her eyes away from his as she spoke. “it’s refreshing to not be alone all the time.” her fingers tighten around his, moving after him. she let out a laugh, keeping her keys close to herself. “drive? you were just stitched up. aren’t you in pain or something?”

maybe a little bit of him was lost, but still watching her explain it. it kind of brought a little smile on his face.. his eyes fell to the hand on his arm and god if his face didn’t hurt, he would have smiled bigger. antonio nodded once and cleared his throat trying to think of something else to say. ‘’swee. i think that’d be fun– we both deserve a little drink. also, hey.. at least i didn’t bleed out in the car. that calls for a celebratory drink, right?’’

alex was really passionate about her job. she wanted to help people but she wasn’t into blood or anything related with that. she was never passionate about medicine but she loved arguing so that helped. their touch made her feel butterflies inside her stomach. she hadn’t felt that way since meeting her husband. over the years, those feelings left. now a younger guy was giving her them. “we do. it was a long day for both of us. you, especially and i’d love to drink.” she laughed. “no, you’re right. that’s definitely a good thing to celebrate.”

‘‘nah, its gotta be. you argue to prove your case, and defend whatever.. it is you’re defending.’‘ he shrugs, only sending a weak little smile in her direction before grimacing again and looking down. his free hand goes up to rub his face where the stitches were, letting out a grunt. ‘‘do you wanna head back to yours? i don’t feel like.. being in public or anything. but, if you’re.. up for it.’‘

“that’s definitely part of the job but a lot of it is finding evidence to argue my cases and win. i work a lot with assistants and paralegals to prove those points.” she didn’t want to get too into it. being a lawyer wasn’t just what you saw on tv. it was different. she returned the smile, letting her free hand rest on his arm. “no one should be home so we can head back there.” she shook her head. “no, it’s fine. we can hang out. just the two of us.”

‘‘well i bet you are– i gotta see you in action.  because well, like.. i dunno i feel like its only fair. you see me in my job enviroment, now all thats left is for me to see you in yours.’‘ he said with a chuckle, giving her a smirk. ‘‘i’ll be sure to keep that in mind.’‘ antonio mumbles and makes his way to the door, a hand still on his face as he let out a small string of swear words in spanish. ‘‘– as long as we can get drinks. you good with that?’‘

“i can promise you that my job is not as exciting as yours is.” she shook her head, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ears. “maybe. if you can get yourself invited into a courtroom soon.” her eyes glance down to their hands as they move together towards the exit. “drinks sound nice.” they were always more than nice but alex didn’t feel the need to get drunk today. it was a new feeling. “let’s do it.”

hm.. antonio’s lips curled up into a weak smile but he grimaced and shook his head, a hand moving up to his face. ‘’well i can definitely see it. y’can win an argument and you’re REALLY PERSUASIVE.’’ antonio gave her hand another squeeze as he spoke, nodding once. ‘’you work really well under pressure. that’s badass. its– it was awesome. here, we can. head out or whatever y’want.’’

alexandra hadn’t felt this relaxed with someone in a long time. not where she felt all happy and giggly when speaking to them. it was refreshing. usually her life was boring and monotonous. it wasn’t so much anymore. “shut up. i am really good at my job but it was clear you needed some medical attention.” her head shook again. “i’ve just had to deal with a lot at one time. i’m pretty good at multitasking.” her eyes moved to the door, nodding a bit. “i’m following you.”

‘‘eh, but i feel like you would’ve gotten it done.’‘ antonio only shrugs and he sits up a little more in an attempt to get comfortable. ‘‘have you thought about becoming one, y’know? you.. really know how to keep someone calm. not a doctor, but.. an EMT?’‘ he asks as he squeezes her hand back in return, entwining their fingers. ‘‘thanks to you. i would’ve ignored it.’‘

“maybe but we’ll never find that out because i am not going to stitch up someone’s face. ever.” she smiled once more, exhaling slowly. “no, not really. i’ve only ever thought about being a lawyer. i’m really good at it.” she was just a mom and she had to keep her own kids calm sometimes. especially when they were in danger. “i was just doing what i thought would help.” a quick glance down to their hands put another smile on her face. “yeah, i know. i’m glad i was persistent.”

‘‘y’know, youtube has pretty educational videos on how to stitch. hear you can find videos about ANYTHING on youtube, really.’‘ he mumbled, finally looking up at her as his lip curl up into a small smile. ‘‘i bet you would’ve done it well. listen, i’m no-.. i mean it. thank you. i’m usually not good with– the..’‘ antonio trails off, brows furrowing in thought but he shrugs. ‘‘ it means a lot to me. i’m glad you didn’t get TOO FREAKED.’‘

“i refuse to watch youtube videos on sewing to stitch up a face. that sounds like danger waiting to happen. lots of lawsuits.” she laughed a little. “i believe that but i am not doing it.” her head shook a little as she kept her eyes on his face. “maybe but i’d rather not. i’m no doctor.” she lifted a hand to touch one of his, squeezing it gently. “you don’t have to thank me. i know something is bad when i see it. i’m just glad you’re doing better.”

‘‘they say it’s supposed to heal up in a week or so.’‘ he mumbles, eyes looking everywhere but her. ‘‘ i don’t know what i would’ve done– honestly, i probably would’ve ignored going to the hospital and just.. patched it up myself. but thank you, alex.’‘

“i feel like they know the process.” she glanced at the stitches on his face. they looked a lot nicer than the bloody mess that she saw earlier. she was glad her kitchen towels were no longer being ruined. “you wanted me to stitch it up. i’m pretty sure i couldn’t have done that well.” she nodded. “you’re welcome.”

      ❛  stop –– mom, why do you say that ? he hasn’t been in my life at all. he wasn’t there when i broke my arm in 6th grade. he wasn’t there when i got that concussion in 9th grade. he wasn’t there so why do i have to be ? ❜       his tone was softer than normal. it was his mother, so of course he wasn’t going to blow up at her like he wanted to.        ❛  he’s not my brother. syd’s my sister, and that’s all i’ve got. ❜       

“why am i the one that has to stop? you should be telling yourself to stop. stop being so selfish. phoenix and his mother aren’t the devil.” that was more the position of her husband. he could really piss someone off easily. “i’m not even sure he was aware of those situations.” she placed her hands on her waist. “i’m not telling you to be best friends or instant family with him but you could treat him a little better. it’s not his fault.”

‘‘HEY-- i don’t get droopy eyed. the only time i get droopy eyed is if i’m.’‘ trailing off, a hand goes up to run along his face and he waves it off dismissively. for someone who was bleeding out and probably a few seconds away from passing out due to some blood loss, he was pretty calm. ‘‘your car is nice, i’ll try to control my blood loss.’‘ antonio quips, letting out a grunt as he stands up a bit straighter– but grasps onto her hand for support.. ‘‘ mhm, i’ll try. i promise.’’

“if you’re what?” she shook her head, trying her best to move him towards the door. it wasn’t terribly chilly that day but alex grabbed her jacket on the way just in case. she wasn’t sure how he was still standing, honestly. “you’re damn right my car is nice and i’d really appreciate it if i didn’t have to get it cleaned.” she was half serious but she wanted him to know she wasn’t joking. she managed to get the passenger door open, keeping him close to her side. “careful getting in.”

‘‘hm? hm, i’m AWAKE– i’m up. still alive, i know how that sucks for some people.’‘ he mumbles and slips an arm around her shoulder, a hand moving to the side of his face. ‘‘okay, okay we can go to the hospital. i’m awake, i promise.’‘ of course, it wasn’t his true intention to actually go to the hospital. if word got back to ezra that one of his EMTS was there with his face split open, it’d result in a whole mess.  but he’d humor her, actually go to the hospital as much as he’s against it. ‘’i’m here, i’m here. we can go if y’want.’’

“i know that you’re alive but i need you to stay awake. you were starting to get droopy eyed on me.” she shook her head. this situation was stressful and she was trying to handle it as best she could. without freaking out. he was an emt after all and knew what was best. “thank god. let me grab a few towels so you don’t bleed all over my car.” she moved back into the kitchen, grabbing a few of the old towels in the drawer. “can you stand up? i can try to move with you but you’re a bit heavier than i am.”
