Dana used to insert himself into fights all the time, just for the thrill.
This is a reflection of how much I want to start beef with people on the daily
priorities
Dana (always) and 7 for the ask game?
7- What would their ideal self look like and what is preventing them from achieving that ideal version of themselves
Generally, Dana's ideal self is just their self, happy at the end of that day with no shame and nothing unfulfilled. They really are that short-sighted. Except, after the whole death match fiasco, they suddenly can't move away from the past and won't accept an ending that isn't finishing this nasty business - if they don't, then they will have regrets at the end of the day, because they won't have done enough, and then they won't be their ideal self. So her ideal self, as of now in campaign, is just someone who has no debts (has helped the crew get away from current plot) and no regrets (not resolving the Mako business). Ideally they don't die before that happens.
That's like, a month in the future. Dana doesn't see the point in speculating further than that.
Dana, 5 too!!
5- Do they feel they deserve love simply for existing or do they believe they have to offer something in return and If so what do they offer
Ok so. Dana is annoying,
Dana thinks people generally deserve the general concept of ~love~ for existing because existing can be really hard sometimes, especially for other people. It's rough out there. Not only that, but most people need something to love, too. Everyone deserves and even needs love both ways to weigh against it all, in some measure, right? Probably? It never hurts, at least...wait-
However. If there is such a thing as not deserving love, it would probably be the people that don't need it, right? If there was someone who needed it less, was last in line for it, deserved it the least, it's probably Dana, right? Because everyone else is goes through these awful ordeals and all that pain, and Dana can't even comprehend it really. Dana gets to cruise by without this overwhelming awful thing people spend their whole lives avoiding. If anything, Dana is someone people don't have to worry about loving, because they're okay either way. Like a free space in bingo.
Besides, being wrong about being loved feels way worse than just not being loved in the first place. Maybe other people can deal with it but Dana isn't used to that kind of misery ok their life is GREAT!
2, 5, 7 for Cairn? 🤲
2- What teaching technique works best for them and what is their preferred technique for teaching others?
What worked best for Cairn (whose background is Apprentice, he is a studious boy) was explaining things patiently and letting him finish things on his own. Like doing a "and therefore...." and let him finish. If he's right, he gets more confident! And research is basically enrichment to him so honestly just leave him to it. Also he is unafraid to put his hands all over things. Please let him. He wants to get up close and personal
He's never had the chance to be much of a teacher himself, but I imagine he'd be very patient and encouraging too :) he likes being asked questions about stuff and being listened to
5- Do they feel they deserve love simply for existing or do they believe they have to offer something in return and If so what do they offer?
😬
Ok so like.... he doesn't hate himself or anything, and he doesn't think he's a bad person. But. He's also dangerous, high-maintenance in a way, and just otherwise pretty unremarkable. Maybe a bit of a burden sometimes even (he's just being realistic. They frequently need to come up with money for ingredients for a spell that lets him feel Not Insane for a while if he doesn't smudge ornwash it off. Not only does he constantly need help with something, he feels a bit gross, too.) He literally can't be trusted to be alone a lot of the time. He generally just needs o7ther people a lot, and whether or not he deserves it, people are frequently there for him.
So he tries to be useful whenever he can (and I mean he is! He's not the best fighter but he's resourceful and comes in real handy) and lightens the load where he can. Tries not to take up more space. Makes it clear how grateful he is. And yknow is as ride or die as the rest of the team is for each other lol
So he doesn't really have a comment on deserving, that's more of a philosophy thing. But he knows he should be really goddamn grateful for the love he has and he should repay it how he can because if losing it is a possibility it's not one he wants to explore.
7- What would their ideal self look like and what is preventing them from achieving that ideal version of themselves
HMM. Before, his idealized self would basically be Mentor 2.0 (Iolas) where he's calm and smart and has researched further than anyone has before and written books. Nowadays... I guess his idealized self is that, but more like himself than his uncle. And also his team is there.
What's stopping him from getting there? Oh, my god. The horrors. He's not even fully in control of himself right now, nevermind the future. He's happy for everyone to make it through the week.
Dana, 3!!
3- Is there something they can't resist or someone they find it impossible to say no to
Can't resist a good time babyyyyyyy
No but they actually are SO easy to influence and manipulate and have little self control. So yeah they're not gonna resist one more drink, an ill advised party, an uneven fight etc.... they're kind of a thrillseeker so. Yanno.
But also thanks to their chronic debt problem they have a real hard time saying no if they think the person deserves a yes. Give them a sad enough look, tell them how your sister had a baby and then she died and now you have to take care of the baby- etc etc and they'll fold like a house of cards.
9,10,22 for cairn??
Cairn is a lot easier to do than Dana so he goes first lol
9- How do they deal with loss and what does their grief look like?
I'm not sure he ever got to grieve anything...? His family was alive when he disappeared, and there was too much stuff going on when he found out his home burned down. I imagine it's very quiet and contained grieving, though, and he might do a little ritual, ask Death to be kind to whoever has joined it, probably keep a memento on his person.
Before grief comes bargaining and denial, though, lots of that. Depending on who it was, Cairn might not accept a loved one's death easily.
10- What would make them lose respect for someone
He's actually not too respectful to begin with LOL, not on the inside. He absolutely does not stand for hurting children (loves kids) or spouses (loves romance). Also, he operates pretty firmly on the grounds that all knowledge is good knowledge and there is no such thing as an inherent evil, so if someone rejected the opportunity to learn out of fear or prejudice, he would think it was cowardly, at least.
22- Do they prioritize stability and peace above all else or would they challenge the status quo if necessary
He DOES prioritize peace, and he IS afraid to oppose the status quo..... but he does it anyway. Way too curious for his own good. But he does it secretly, and in fear the whole time. That's basically his necromancy lol, "oohhhg if i got caught it would be real bad I'm gonna lose sleep over this..... but I have to know... and people don't even know what they're afraid of, anyway" (in this world certain magic is Very taboo and he's into it anyway, again because he doesn't believe that a force can be evil and that knowing about it is any worse than being ignorant of it. Which is pretty radical of him!
