“Anyways...” She trailed off with a smirk on her face. “After three cups of coffee please stop me.  I’m begging you.”

Taking the napkin from her, Sunny began to clean off what she could, though admittedly it wasn’t making much of a dent in the mess of her shirt. “It’s fine, it’s fine,” she muttered, though a soft sigh escaped her, betraying her words somewhat. “You’re right it’s a fatal flaw, you should work on that. It’s not a good thing if it means you’re going to constantly throw coffee over strangers.”

Aleah sighed as the stain stayed still. “I’ll buy you a new shirt.” She spoke softly, aware that the girl was clearly not thrilled. “Yeah, I know. Just a little tired after work I guess.” Nodding, she sighed and grabbed  her phone out. “Tell me where you got the shirt and the size, I’ll make it up to you!”

“You will…really?” Thomas was shocked. He was sure, that because she had made a mistake about the Craigslist ad, that the girl would walk away without a ferret, and Thomas would have to find some other way to get rid of the little rascal. “I-I, well, I wasn’t expectin’ anyone ta’ even take him, so I haven’t even thought of a price.” The girl put her hands out and Thomas didn’t waste anytime giving her the ferret. “Here,” he said quickly, hoping she wouldn’t change her mind. 

Noticing that they were still standing in the entryway Thomas invited her in, “I’m sorry, come on in.” He kicked away Wyatt’s G.I. Joe’s, trucks and skateboard, toys her told him to pick up yesterday. “Excuse tha’ mess. But, I have everythin’ fer the ferret in here - a cage, food, toys, everythin’ you’ll need. You can take it all. I won’t charge ya’ fer’ anything. Yer’ doin’ me a big favor by even wantin’ him.” Thomas noticed he was talking fast, a habit of his when excited.

“Yeah of course.” She smirked. “I came over here, I would feel pretty bad if I just up and left. Plus, I could always use some company.” Aleah laughed as she stood in the entryway of his home. She walked in and eyed the toys everywhere as he welcomed her in. “Oh don’t worry about it. I can only imagine how hectic having a kid must be.” Aleah held the ferret and eyed him. “Y’know. My mom’s kind of lonely, all by herself. I bet she’d like him.” Stroking the ferret’s back she smiled and sat him in his cage. “I couldn’t do that. Give me a price, I’ll pay it. You’re a father eah?  Think of it as a late Christmas present! Do something for you and the family.” Aleah handed him a 50 dollar bill and grabbed the cage.

Sunny was on her way back from the hotel and to her place, wanting to sit and relax for the rest of the day, when somebody suddenly ran straight into her. A gasp escaped her as the coffee hit her front, her eyes squeezing shut immediately as she prepared for the burning sensation. Thankfully it didn’t come and a moment later, she let a breath go again. “You should…” she murmured, opening her eyes again. “What were you even doing?”

“I wasn’t paying attention.” She spoke quickly and handed the girl a napkin, for the coffee she saw land in her eyes. “I’m really sorry.” Aleah gulped and tucked a piece of hair behind her air. “That’s one of my fatal flaws. I get distracted so easily and completely zone out. It really causes me to bump into anything ad everything.” She laughed.

Aleah had been making her way home from work, as the distance from her job as a doctor was not too far from her cozy one bedroom apartment. With a coffee in her hand and her bag in the other, she had been admiring all of Montreal’s scenery on her way home. It was getting dark and although sometimes it scared her to walk home alone, there was always pepper spray waiting in her handbag. Her eyes wandered everywhere but in front of her, as she bumped into someone and her coffee spilled everywhere. “Oh my goodness.” She spoke softly and immediately leaned to the ground to pick up the cup and grab some Kleenex out of her bag, in hopes of cleaning up the other. “I should really pay more attention.” She laughed softly, trying to lighten the mood - in hopes that someone wasn’t mad at her.

“So,” Alex said, testing to make sure the area was numbed before starting to throw in the stitches, “How’d you do this again?”

“I think they fell off their bike.” She sighed as she signed off a few things on the clipboard as Dr. Palmer took over. Aleah’s hand was gripped onto the patients as they were scared of the pain that may come. “It’ll be okay, I promise.” Dr. Depaul spoke with a reassuring voice.

  “What, i was way more help” he laughed, “you are right about that. Anywhere with good coffee is good and i am not too fond of waffles. I see them as want to be pancakes”

“Whatever you say, Lucas.” She smirked and nodded in agreement. “The coffee statement is correct but you insulting waffles is just rude”

  “Now you got my hopes all up for nothing and i am upset” joked Lucas as he lead the way, “Do you have a favorite breakfast?”

“Hey, you were about as much help as I was!” Aleah laughed as she followed the boy. “I’m a waffle kind of gal. Plus, anywhere with coffee to be honest.”

Cassian released a sigh of reluctance as he bent down to pick up the shards of glass by the women’s feet. He carefully piled them into his hands when he stood back up, nodding his head in agreement. “It’s funny, how much of a klutz I am. Based on tonight, it wouldn’t be hard to guess that while at lunch yesterday I spilled a cup of water all over my co-workers desk.” He shrugged his shoulders with a bit of a laugh, whilst pointing a few blocks up the street. “I was actually on my way home now, I’m on three blocks away.”

“You really didn’t have to pick them up.” She laughed softly. “Just be careful not to cut yourself with the shards.” She swung her purse over her shoulder and stuffed her hands in her pocket. “Well, that makes two of us. I have a bad habit of constantly spilling stuff, running into people, and everything else. That’s why I really can’t be mad at you for doing this.” Aleah peered down the street and saw a cafe still open. “Are you in a rush to go home? I could really use a cup of coffee and a friend. I’ll pay. I mean, you’re the one with pieces of glass in your hand.”

  “No judgement” he laughed, “I don’t any buffet but if you know a place, we can go there” 

“I actually don’t know of any buffet either. Some breakfast diner sounds good to me though.” She shrugged. “Lead the way!”

  “Noo…” laughed Lucas as he joked, “I don’t believe that i have ever met anyone who has ever quoted Hannah Montana” 

“Look, I may have been sixteen when that show first came out, but I totally watched it.” She smirked and looked at the boy. “Back to this whole buffet thing. Did you think of anywhere? Or will I have to settle for pancakes?” The brunette groaned, and then let out a soft laugh.

“ I maxed out one of my credit cards last night on powdered donuts and Cabernet - I’m telling you, there is a fine line between writer’s block, burnout and depression “ 

“There are many things more beneficial to you than that, Jen. Water is excellent.” She laughed. “Has this said Cabernet helped you at all?”

“Wh.. Pft, me? Stressed? I’ve got no stress, I’m..” She paused with a hand on her chest. She wasn’t very good at lying, but she knew they weren’t going to let this go, trying to make her admit something she didn’t even want to confront herself. “I’m just… on edge, lately. It won’t last.” Alma breathed out, staring away a moment. This conversation topic made her nervous, but this wasn’t the first person to bring it up. 

She was in good company, she had her family here and returned from her dad’s place yesterday morning. Though, even the chef knew that’s not what her friend meant. “Just because I’m single doesn’t mean I’m miserable.” And she wasn’t desperate for it either, even if her last relationship was nearly two years ago. Perhaps they were right, that her loneliness was contributing to the anxiety she was having recently. 

“Oh c’mon. Not only is this the doctor in me, but also the friend. I can tell you’re stressed out, and there’s clearly an underlying reason, Alma.” Her eyebrows rose as her arms folded across her chest. She could tell the girl didn’t want to talk a bout it, so she ended the conversation quickly. “Oh believe me, I’d be the first girl to know about that. You’re talking to the queen of not getting into relationships. Mainly because I’m scared, but that’s for another day.” Aleah laughed and hugged the girl tightly. “I’m glad you’re back, though. Forreal!”

“Okay, okay, gimme a moment to think… This isn’t just a decision you make willy nilly. You might have to help me here… Hmm… What do you think: mint chocolate chip or cookies and cream ice cream?”

“If I’m going to be honest, I’d have to say mint chocolate chip. Quite frankly, the whole cookies and cream trend hasn’t really appealed to me.” She laughed. “Since I helped you make this decision, do I at least get a spoonful of your final decision?” She smirked.

  “Are you seriously quoting Hannah Montana?” he laughed 

“Of course! Please don’t tell me you’re anti - Hannah Montana. I don’t need that kind of energy in my life.” Aleah laughed as she put her hands up in defence.

Where the heck had she lost her credit card? Sutton had been scrambling around the city for hours trying to find it with no luck. She was on her way to her favorite cafe to see if she’d left it there, scrolling through her emails on her phone to see if her bank had processed her request to cancel the missing card when she collided with somebody. She cried out as the coffee burned through her favorite white shirt and seeped into her brand new shoes. Just when she’d thought this day couldn’t get any worse, it had. The tears came before she could stop them. “Do you think this is funny?” she asked, looking up towards the sky, where she imagined God was laughing at her. As she lowered her gaze, she noticed the familiar face before her. “Oh my gosh, Aleah,” she said, wiping her tears as more kept falling. “I must look crazy. It’s not you, I promise. I’m just having the worst day.”

Aleah eyed the familiar face and saw her agressively swiping through her phone, but she couldn’t see what for. To top it all off, the girl was wearing white - and sometimes coffee stained. Being religious herself, Aleah looked up at the sky and spoke to God as well. “Hey c’mon, give this girl a break.” She smiled softly and looked at the girl as she tried to pat down her shoes and shirt. “I’ll buy you new ones, new shirt, new shoes, heck - shopping spree on me.” In attempt to cheer her up, she saw tears falling from her face. She immediately stood up and placed her hand on the median of the girls back. “Hey. What’s wrong?”
