“Before you say it, I already know this is terrible,” he began, sliding into the empty seat across from his newfound companion. Isaac’s far-off gaze blinked away from the main entrance of the establishment to force a smile. “I’m… Well, I ran into someone I don’t exactly want to run into, so pretend we’re deeply wrapped up in a philosophical discussion, alright? I’ll even buy you a drink to make it worth your while.” Ducking his head slightly to avoid eye-contact with all other patrons, Isaac plucked up the slim drink menu. He stuck with his vague storyline, chewing at the inside of his lip as he perused the options, because no one really wanted to admit they were avoiding an ugly blind date. That would’ve been wildly uncouth – even for Isaac.
It had been a long and challenging day for Kate. Being in the wedding business was never an easy task - especially when dealing with “bridezilla’s” all day who couldn’t understand what waiting for an alteration meant or what “we don’t have this in stock” meant. Kate huffed, while rolling her eyes at the audacity of some people, and flipped through her over-sized planner that took up most of the cafe table. She wasn’t one to really take her work with her wherever she went, but it was urgent - seeing as one of her customers moved their wedding to tomorrow. Just as Kate switched her focus from her planner to her notebook, a man’s voice caught her attention.Â
“...so pretend we’re deeply wrapped up in a philosophical discussion, alright? I’ll even buy you a drink to make it worth your while.”
Kate laughed, “I would invite you to sit down, but looks like you’ve already made yourself at home.” She looked around, trying to take a guess at who he could be avoiding. “Philosophical, huh?” Kate tucked her planner and the notebook back into her satchel. She then sat up straight, resting her elbow on the table, and then resting her chin on her fist. With a smile, she spoke, “What’s your name? I think that’s pretty philosophical, considering I don’t know the answer.”
