My trip to Thailand this year in February. Words will barely describe, photos will barely convince. This was my very first trip to southeast Asia and I couldn't be more satisfied! Hope you enjoy my attempt to show you my experience.
what it looks like to fly 6 hours without any sleep.
my first Pad Thai in Thailand, accompanied by Chang which became my beer of choice the rest of the trip
After flying from Vienna to Dubai and Dubai to Bangkok, we stayed approximately 8 hours in a hotel and had to wake up at 4:30 am to catch a domestic flight to Ranong. We flew with Nok Air (Nok means bird in Thai), I thought our plane looked more like a duck!
Boat ride from Ranong to Koh Phayam, the island we would stay at the next 10 days.
Our arrival to this small paradise in the Andaman Sea.
Our first bungalow, Phayam Friends. Amazing place, amazing people. We woke up every morning to this view, pure happiness.
FOOD & DRINK- fantastic! as it was pretty hot every day, instead of eating hot things I opted for fresh papaya shakes and lots of vegetable dishes. We ate breakfast often at a little hippie place called Cha Chan, think vegan waffles with homemade cashew butter or vegan sausage sandwiches equipped with homemade cashew and holy basil pesto. There weren't many other beer choices than Chang or Singha, but cocktails were pretty cheap. I also LOVED the pad thai!
ANIMALS- One thing I absolutely adored about Koh Phayam is that it seemed animals and people co-existed peacefully. People respected the numerous stray cats and dogs, often feeding them scraps of whatever was left over. Chickens walked around with kittens. Monkeys kept to themselves, scavenging for food while huge Hornbills flew overhead.
Our second bungalow on the eastern side of the island. The bungalow itself was really nice but we didn't like the beach as much on this side, as it wasn't as wild as the west coast and it was near the pier with a lot of traffic.
Our mode of transportation- Christoph was a great driver and navigator, despite a few balance problems.
CHILL OUT- we spent 90% of our days literally just lying around in places like these, lounging on comfy cushions and sipping fruit shakes or coffee or beer or a combination.
THE SEA- Koh Phayam is located in the Andaman Sea, part of the Indian Ocean. The sea was very diverse depending on which part of the island you were visiting.
HIPPY BAR- and then there was this place. Located in a remote part of the island, Hippy Bar was exactly as it looks.
the happy couple taking it all in.
We were sad to leave the island after ten days of pure relaxation. This was the ferry that brought us back to Ranong to make it to another duck flight!
Made it safely to Bangkok, but never felt so safe inside of these tuk-tuks.
BANGKOK- not my favorite city in the world. happy we were there less than 2 days. the market wasn't as crazy as I had expected and things were pretty cheap. In general, I just didn't find it to be a very interesting city....more like crowded and humid.
Thanks for taking a look at my adventure in Thailand! I would love to go back again one day and explore more.
