annalise: no, i mean when you fell walking in. i watched you trip on your foot and just kind of lay there on the floor for about ten minutes.

abel: alec serrano and kai anoa'i are two of the worst people on the face of the earth.
maya: wow. how do you even know them?
abel: oh, they're two of my closest friends.
“Oh, so you mean to tell me you look like a grape left in the sun just for fun?” Nadia commented as her features morphed into an exaggerated look of disbelief which earned her a laugh from the toddler hanging off her brother’s hip. Flashing the little girl a little wink, the brunette turned back to her laptop to answer the emails Alec seemed to be ridiculing her for. “Not Jesus Christ but Jesus Lopez. He’s a carpenter Maya works with often and since a lot of our clients have been cancelling as of late I have to email him and tell him we don’t need the custom chairs and tables we ordered. Unless you want him to waste his time making something we’re not gonna buy? Hmm… is that what you want Alec? I didn’t think so. Now that you’re here though, would you mind grabbing the pregnant woman a cup of ice?”
“You could’ve just said sultana but you didn’t, so who’s really winning this conversation right now?” Alec said, not being able to help the corners of his lips tugging into a smile. “Don’t answer that, you’ve already gotten my own kid against me and all you did was put something on television for her.” he said with a roll of his own eyes as a joke to tease his little sister. Alec put the little girl down and whispered in her ear about Nadia’s request before tapping her in the back to prompt her. She was three and knew this house as if it were her own, plus he didn’t really want her hearing the question he was about to ask next. “How is she, by the way?” he asked. “I know I just said that I didn’t want to hear about it, but is she okay at least?”
“That’s what I’m here for. When you need a little boost to your ego, just come straight to me,” Louisa grinned, winking at him before she accepted his hand to pull herself up. “Thank God. I’m not sure I could still like you if you said no to food,” she grinned, picking up her own coat to slide into it. “Do you have any recommendations around here? I’m still on my mission to try every good place around here so I don’t miss out on any amazing food.”
“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind, hopefully you don’t mind sticking around then. You know, so I can at least hold up my side of the bargain too.” Alec said through a light chuckle as he rubbed the back of his neck, hoping to find something else to divert the subject. “There’s actually a restaurant called Butter just a few blocks away from here. It’s quite fancy, so I’m not sure if we’re dressed for the occasion. But who really cares, right? I’m not gonna lie though, this is my first time coming here so hopefully it meets todays quota for amazing food.”
“Don’t look at me like that,” Nadia defended in a huff. Chocolate hues rolling as she turned away from her brother’s disapproving gaze. “She was running around wild all day and making all sorts of trouble. So sue me if I gave up trying to keep up with her and put on some Doc McStuffins to keep her busy while I got back to some emails.”
“What look? I’m not giving you any look.” Alec started defensively, though the creases on his forehead and the way his eyes squinted said a different story. If he was being honest, it was amusing to him than most -- seeing Nadia taking care of his niece. “Emails, really? That’s more important to you right now than your niece? You better be emailing Jesus Christ himself.” he said, shaking his head as he took Anna in his arms and cradled her on his hop before giving her a kiss. “What could be more important right now? And don’t say that Saboteur shit because Abel’s sister has been raving about it all day and I’ve had about enough of her rants."
“I think you’re asking the wrong person here. But for the sake of making you feel better – I’m sure that’s normal.” A gentle smile tugged at the corners of her lips, but Louisa waved him off right away. “Oh, it wasn’t important anyway. My day was boring, so I was just talking about this amazing sandwich I had for lunch. And despite it, I’m starving again. Would you say no to some food right now?”
“Well, I appreciate the vote of confidence.” Alec said as he chuckled. Not hesitating, he stood up while simultaneously trying to put on his jacker. Once he had one arm in, he held it out to in offer to help her up. “Me? Say no to food? Absolutely not. If there’s anything I haven’t gotten more than sleep, it sure isn’t food. Lead the way.”
“Well, now you’re just cheating. Don’t make me take the shortcuts, too.” He grabbed the beer and took a drink from it. Placing the bottle back on the table, he thought of the next one. “Never have I ever faked my death and came back with a kid.”
“Come on, it’s Never Have I Ever. When have there been any statue of limitations when it comes to this game? Especially when we’re the ones playing it.” Alec chuckled before clapping once as he took a drink. Though his celebration was short lived as he heard his friends words. “On second thought, this game isn’t as fun as it was back in high school.” he joked.
“And I totally didn’t just steal your drink while you were off in Never Never Land. Your head’s not in the game, pal. You doin’ okay?” Not that it particularly mattered to Teri either way, but this guy had vaguely revealed only twenty minutes prior that he was her direct line to Abel. How could she pass up the opportunity? “We were talking about Genesis. You said it’s a decent spot and your friend owns it.”
“Have it. You’re doin’ me more of a favour than you know. That’s the last time I’m gonna ask the bartender to ‘surprise me.’” Alec started before pushing the glass towards the female with the back of his hand. “Right, Genesis... it’s located in Brooklyn if thats what you wanted to know. Abel, the owner, plays with his band down there too.”
“You totally did not listen! You were about to fall asleep on me, and that’s really ruining my self-esteem. Did you not get enough sleep?”
“Barely, Anna kept me up all night last night, and didn’t finally fall asleep until two in the morning. Is it normal for them to still be like this at three?” Alec chuckled as he shook his head before pushing himself up. “Sorry, look -- you have my undivided attention now. What was it you were sayin?”
“Ok for that, you have to say I’m the greatest person you’ve ever known if you want any more pizza.”
“Just as long as you don’t tell Abel or Kai, they might get jealous.” Alec laughed before sitting up straight. “Elliot Harrison Sharpe, you are the greatest person I’ve ever known.” he said before pointing at the pizza. “Your middle and last name has to at least earn me more than one slice.”
“Try to be a little more convincing next time, then I might believe you.”
“So... does that mean you’re not interested in going for drinks tonight?” Alec smirked. “Convincing enough for ya?”
“Obviously. Totally believe you.” And because she’s in a particularly good mood, she can’t help it. “So where was I?”
“Uh... somethin’ about... your job?” Alec asked in an unconvincing tone before he broke into a light chuckle. “Not gonna lie, I wasn’t really listening. This would be a lot easier if you just told me what you were saying.”
“What? Yeah, no, of course... Of course, I was totally listening.”

“Never have I ever had a best friend that faked his death and came back with a kid.” Alec said, trying his best to maintain a straight face though failed. Sliding the beer towards him, he grinned. “Come on, man. You’re making this too easy.”
“Let me guess, you’re the type of person who actually believes that New Years resolutions work.” There was a hint of disbelief in Angel’s voice, and just a tiny bit of judgment. More like, a whole lot of judgment. New Years resolutions were childish in his opinion and he couldn’t believe that there were actually people who still believed that they were useful in any way.
“I don’t know, do I look sixteen to you?” Alec asked back sarcastically, his question making it obvious that he didn’t believe in such thing. “If you wanna do something, do it. Don’t wait for the new year. That’s an easier motto to live by in my books.”
