She’s always preferred the company of her brother to just about anyone else in the world. Though not entirely shy, she always felt more comfortable around family, especially Amycus. When they were really little she let him speak for her, and though she certainly doesn’t do that anymore, he is her most trusted confidant and she relies on him immensely.
Alecto, while neither nurturing nor universally caring by nature, can be incredibly caring to the select few who she happens to like. If you are on that list, you are lucky, as she will do practically anything to defend those she loves. However, if you are not on her good side, she is more than slightly vengeful and isn’t afraid to play dirty to cheat. She might have been good enough at school, but she certainly didn’t pass with flying colors all on her own.
She’s been naturally curious for as long as she can remember. Of course, this curiosity did land both her and her brother in trouble more than a handful of times as kids, but she likes to say that it works to her advantage, though she’ll always be thankful she didn’t end up in Ravenclaw with a bunch of nerds. Alecto also serves to be the more serious twin to her brother’s hot-headedness, and though they can both be cruel, her flavor of cruelty is often more venomous, silent, and, in the end, deadly.

There was never a time that Alecto could remember not being right next to her brother. She was as much a part of him as he was of her, and they’d been told more than once that sometimes it was hard to know where one of them ended and the other began. As children, they’d walk around constantly holding hands, learning everything together, sharing nearly everything (even when Alecto would sneer at the neighboring children). Amycus took care of her, too - when their father was angry, he was always the one to take the blame, no matter what.
Hogwarts couldn’t come quickly enough, and the pride that Alecto felt upon being sorted into Slytherin alongside her brother was unmatched by anything she’d experienced up until that moment. She was finally in a place where both she and her brother could be appreciated, unlike at home, where nothing either of them did seemed enough for their father, and their mother hardly seemed to pay attention to them in the way that Alecto figured mothers were supposed to pay attention.
Where her brother couldn’t sit still, Alecto felt almost a desperate need to be grounded, to find solid answers - so when she was offered the chance to join Dueling Club, to make something of herself with tangible results, she accepted without hesitation. She quickly rose to be one of the best in the club, and though she didn’t always strive to be better than her brother, it was nice to have this skill where he excelled at Quidditch and all things to do with the sky.
Thankfully, she excelled at both her OWLs and her NEWTs (at least in comparison to her brother), and she finally saw at least a semblance of satisfaction (she wasn’t entirely naïve enough to call it pride) on her father’s face. However, it didn’t truly matter what her scores had been - her family (namely, her father) had decided that working in administration for Wizengamot would be the best way for their family to continue having a leg up in society. Her father had a seat on the council, and so it only made sense that there be someone else in their family in the know as well, and as it certainly wouldn’t be her mother or her brother, it only made sense for Alecto to work there.
It didn’t hurt that working in administration helped to ensure that she knew a great deal of what was going on in the world. Information that she often told her brother about, and passed along to her father when it seemed necessary. So when there were whispers that her family and closest acquaintances were following the Dark Lord, she naturally obliged. After all, what better way was there to ensure the sanctity of the magical world?
Former dueling club partner/friend: One of the only people in the club who could ever beat Alecto. At first, their relationship was taut, but they grew to respect one another and might even be able to consider the other a friend.
Co-worker at Wizengamot Administration Services: Alecto is pretty nosy, often knows what is up. This can either be plotted as a mutually beneficial relationship, or one where your character is suspicious of her.
Ex-something: Alecto isn’t especially into romance, but somehow, she decided that your character was someone she wanted to pursue. Maybe it was out of genuine affection (of which she only has some), or maybe it was because your character could get her something she wanted, but you two fell into something intense, and eventually one of you called it off. Whether or not you still talk can be discussed (open to all genders)!
