By now, Maya has found herself in more dangerous situations than she can count on one hand. It's funny, really - absurd in a way, and sometimes, she tries to think of it as something to be proud of.
After all, she's a survivor. It feels strange to think of herself that way - a little uncomfortable and stomach-tightening, but kind of good as well. She used to worry about being useless, a burden on the people she cares about, but when she looks back properly, that's never really fully been the case. Or at least, she'd like to hope so. The point is... yeah, sometimes she wishes that things were easier. Being "used to it" doesn't stop the feeling of fear from seizing her whenever she's actually in some sort of danger.
But it's better when she's not alone. Because - as awful as it is to say, and as much as she'd prefer that no-one else was in trouble but her - that means she has to be strong for someone else.
"Don't worry!" Maya declares, a determined expression on her face. She doesn't know the stranger with her, but it's weirdly reassuring to have someone by her side. "We'll find a way out of this together!"

At Phoenix's words... Ema's expression softens just a touch. They're not surprising to her - on the contrary, she'd been expecting him to say something along those lines, though the weight of his hand on her shoulder is grounding, and more of a surprise.
Still... either way, she smiles. It's a crooked yet warm smile that could only belong to her - and she thinks it's not just because of what was said to her, but the person who said it, too.
"I know." Ema says, but her voice is heavy with gratitude. "Thank you. It means a lot, hearing it from you."
If it had been anyone else to suggest it, maybe it wouldn't have had the same impact, but Ema knows Phoenix. She knows the sincerity of his nature, but also the fierceness with which he'll fight for the sake of those he cares about - he's fought for her too, after all. She'll always be grateful for what he's done for her. That's why she wants him to know that, too.
"But the same goes for you, you hear?" And - with not quite a pout, but something close, she pokes a finger in his direction, emphasizing the point as best she can. "Don't think that you can get away with taking everything on alone... I'm here to help, you know?"
She's not a child anymore. At the very least, she wants to do whatever she can.
"Neither of us are done just yet."

HELLO!! so, update - i definitely haven't been around very much on this blog for a while, and i owe quite a few replies/starters i've been putting off for a while, so i want to apologize for that first. i've mostly been active in other fandoms and haven't had too much muse for my ace attorney characters, but... i do want to try being around here more from now!
i just started new adhd medication which seems to be helping me in a lot of ways so far, so fingers crossed it helps with staying active a little more often too <33 with that said though, i've kind of lost track of a lot of what I owe (in terms of replying to starters especially) so if i owe you something, it'd be really appreciated if you could comment here and let me know!! thank youuuuuu <333
HELLOOOOOOOOOOO i am thinking about edgeworth and simeon again today.......... i want to throw them into some crazy supernatural situation. i want to force them to BOND. i want them to be dragged into becoming genuinely important to each other despite all odds kicking and screaming.......... i do not know how to accomplish this yet, but still!!

At first, Edgeworth's expression seems to be as stern as ever. He's always had the kind of face that defaults to a serious expression, and despite the fact that Wright's claims that that frown will get stuck on his face eventually are just jokes, they aren't jokes entirely separate from reality. ...But today, it only takes a moment for that expression to loosen into something more cheerful, and soon, Edgeworth is smiling. It may not be as wide a beam as others might give, but it's clear he's feeling genuinely glad, a mixture of relief and even pride shining in his eyes as he looks at the younger prosecutor head-on.
And why shouldn't he be glad? Today is - should be - a day of celebration, after all.
"It's been a long day for you, hasn't it?" he says, which might be the understatement of the century. But of course, in spite of the happy ending of Simon's innocence being proven - and not a moment too late - not everything today has been wrapped up cleanly. Edgeworth knows that there must be a storm of emotions in Simon's heart right now, even if he hides it well... and he's reminded of the day when his own innocence was proven in court, many years ago, even if the circumstances were different to Simon's now.
"I didn't get the chance to speak with you much earlier, but... I wanted to thank you thank you. Again." And as he sincerely expresses his gratitude, Edgeworth pauses for a moment again as he thinks about what to add next. There's so much that he wants to say, but firstly...
"How... are you feeling? Now that it's all over."
