How do we now convince Emma and Tom to do the next reunion/documentary dressed as Malfoys
I don't think we need it... Because we ended up receiving this gift already...?
Let me explain: Emma has worn a variety of outfits and in a variety of dark shades since the start of the HP 20th Anniversary special. She is seen in one outfit on the platform, another on the train, and two more throughout the special. If I'm not mistaken, she had 4 changes of clothes. All in warm or dark tones. But only one was white. Well, white and black, but you got me. And just as she is entering the ballroom, she appears in a beautiful white dress with black details and black accessories to contrast her beautiful figure.
From my point of view, I believe it was on purpose like everything else in this dramione-related special, but that doesn't take away from the fun of what was provided to the fans. The producers, and I believe the actors as well - since, in my opinion, neither Emma nor Tom would do anything they weren't comfortable doing, let alone anything they didn't agree with. So I'm just grateful that they thought of the fans and gave us this gift.
Saying that, I have to remember that I don't ship the actors, I don't follow their lives and when I talk about them in the special, it's more because I see more Hermione and Draco than the actors themselves - since I also have my suspicions that the producers also gave a kind of tip for them to bring this aspect to the surface more, in the special. Even more because Emma and Tom have a beautiful friendship. And God only knows how pure of heart they were in agreeing to do this fan service, because of course we're not going to stop talking about it for a long, long time. lol
Emma could have chosen any color of clothing to participate in the special. She could have worn a blue dress - as the fandom would certainly approve of seeing her in a blue prom dress, making a direct reference to the books, and would still remedy the switch to the pink dress made in the movies. Or she could choose a dress in golden tones, or even a dress in red tone, which would clearly refer to the character of Hermione and Gryffindor House. I don't know, any color would do.
But Emma chose a black and white dress, with black accessories, and beautiful, sumptuous jewelry made of black diamonds.
And even though I don't follow Emma's career, I've read several articles about her having complete control over the outfit she wears, being quite demanding. That is, if she chose this dress, I believe it was something previously thought out and in line with what she wanted.
So you ask me, "Oh, but it's just a black and white dress. No big deal!"
But is it really? There is meaning to everything in this life. Especially when it comes to characters being portrayed on television. Even more so in this special that blatantly promoted feltson/dramione to the fans. lol.
So here we go... We know that the color white and the color black mean many things in various cultures and religions around the world, that's a fact. But in color psychology: White stands for goodness, purity, precision and simplicity. And the color black, means power, authority, sophistication and leadership.
They also symbolize opposites: Like light vs dark, life vs death, white magic vs dark magic, salvation vs damnation, peace vs war and so on...
All these names and symbolism make me think of the duality of all things, too.For example, yin-yang. And it would be foolish of me not to say that it also makes me think of opposite feelings just like love and hate. Which undeniably exists in the essence of the dramione ship.
These extremes that meet or complement each other in one way or another, in this "all or nothing", in that intensity of one representing "the light" and the other representing what would be "the darkness". And that somehow, they meet in the middle of it, in this common ground, where anything can happen and everything is possible - from making amends to bringing surrender. Finding themselves in a soil where both can coexist. - And, well, many dramione stories are based on this, and there are several examples of this in fics, fanarts and tropes out there to prove it.
Personally, I like that aspect of dramione. And, I believe that the colors white and black carry a lot of that symbology in them too.
So, from my point of view, choosing a white and black dress was not just to stay neutral or to choose the easiest alternative since both black and white match and go with everything. I think that way, because of the accessories Emma chose to go with it.
Here, I made a small canvas with the clothes and accessories she uses in the special:
If it weren't for the accessories and nail polish detail, I'd say "Okay. I'm seeing things where they don't exist." But in this case, the accessories made all the difference for me.
Emma's white dress doesn't come with that satin ribbon at the waist, so she added that detail later. The jewels are black diamonds that are huge and very expensive, looking beautiful and ostentatious - although they balance well with the look without looking tacky or over loaded.
Emma definitely looked gorgeous in that dress and the jewels added a touch of elegance and power when you get a closer look. But it was pretty and discreet enough in the filming of the special. Without a doubt, Emma stood out without having to do much for it.
The touches of black in her dress, from the lace on the dress skirt to the black sash and handbag. Besides the fact, the black diamond jewelry she wore - made me think she looked like a Lady Malfoy herself.
The design of the gems and the type and color of the diamond used in them definitely reminded me a lot of the Malfoy family heirlooms.
The white and black dress along with the gold nail polish made me think it was the perfect mix between the two worlds, the two houses Griffindor x Slytherin. As if she had brought the Gryffindor gold as a way of remembering and demonstrating that Hermione's roots would always belong to Gryffindor. When it comes to personality the color white indicates that the person who wears it has characteristics of appreciating the right things and that she has a perfectionist side in everything she does - just that already reminds me of Hermione's personality for sure.
The funniest fact is, that Emma changed her clothes several times, but this is the look she chose to enter the special and who is the first person she sees after entering the ballroom? That's right! Tom Felton, is none other than our cute and eternal Draco Malfoy.
Here's another canvas I made where we can see how in a curious way the two seem to match or at least seem to complement each other's look with a mixed style of dramione.
Then there is Tom's outfit:
Tom's curious choice of outfit with the beige coat was a bit offbeat compared to his previous appearances in HP, almost as if he had agreed to swap with Emma in changing their looks in relation to their characters. As if Emma had chosen a more Slytherin look and Tom had chosen a more Muggle look with the beige coat. lol.
Even though Tom looked like a Muggle in his chosen outfit, he was still as handsome as ever. And if we look closely too, underneath the beige coat that Tom is wearing, he's wearing a dark-hued suit.
A dark suit, with a dark brown tie and beige coat, and some of the accessories he wears - but which I couldn't see the details clearly enough - are a watch and a black belt.
He is dressed like this, while Emma is a Lady Malfoy herself in his arms.
Perhaps he chose to blend in more, as beige and brown are more neutral, warm and relaxing colors that promote more communication between people. Since it definitely gives a more reliable and stable image as it is a more earthy color.
Anyway, my guess is that if Tom had taken off his coat and stood beside Emma while they talked and danced, you can bet they would definitely look like a Slytherin power couple together.
Even though, I believe, he purposely chose not to take off his coat until the one-on-one interview, where we can see him and Emma wearing a darker outfit.
Anyway, these were just my impressions. It's not perfect, obviously. Even though it's fun to dig into those little details. lol. But I'm happy with the outfit they chose. To be honest, it looks like a mix of all four: From Tom to Draco, from Emma to Hermione. And in a cute way, when Emma stands next to Tom on the special, in a curious way, they seem to match.
So if at the next meeting, they miraculously want to dress up as Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy, that's fine with me. But if that doesn't happen, I believe we've hit the jackpot with this 20th anniversary HP Special - with both of them.
