HEADCANONS
**Alex is the oldest child of Alona and Herschel Coleman, making him the third generation to be born and bred in Parton. He has one younger sister named Bea, who he is two years older than. They are an incredibly loving, tight knit family. It wasn’t uncommon for his friends to flock to his house growing up, Alona and Herschel treating their children’s friends as if they were their own kids.
**Alex and Bea are incredibly close. While they did fight like typical siblings, it is something they mostly grew out of by the time they reached high school. So close, that he was the first person she came out to as a lesbian. He considers her his best friend, though he’d rather get punched in the face than openly admit that to her.
**During his high school years, Alex remained a relatively good kid with the tendencies of a troublemaker - having been suspended twice for fighting. He was smart, capable, funny, charismatic, and generally well liked. He was close to his friends, and he liked partying and going to skateparks and playing guitar in the band he started with his childhood best friends. The issue was, Alex wasn’t exactly the type to apply himself. He simply coasted by, did what was asked of him but nothing more.
**The love for music is deeply rooted in Coleman blood. Alex’s mother, Alona, is a retired choral teacher - having served the local high school for over thirty years. And his father, Herschel, is an immaculately trained luthier, just as his father was before him and his father before him. Coleman’s Guitars is a well established, world renowned shop where guitars of all kinds are carefully and beautifully crafted by hand and repaired - making its name known during the rise of American folk music and the expansion of guitar rock during the 1950s and well into the 1970s. Still iconic today, owning a Coleman guitar is something special.
**Even though he had been trained by his father and had a knack for music, Alex wasn’t immediately drawn to carrying on the legacy of Coleman’s Guitars. With no intention to go to college, he strayed from the family business by taking on two jobs - one in the city as a waiter at a restaurant fancier than any of the ones back home, and the other working odd construction jobs around town. After a few years of this, Alex started saving up to get an associate’s degree in business from Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn.
**Alex has been and always will be in love with Sage Carson. They’ve been in each other’s lives for nearly two decades now, but the transition from annoying best friend of his little sister to love of his life didn’t happen until he was 22 years old. The history these two share is long and complex, and frankly still heartbreaking if he puts too much thought into it. After crossing the line of being mutually untouchable for Bea’s sake, they lived out their romance in secret for nearly a year in between highly anticipated breaks from school and long distance phone calls, hoping it would last forever until a fight and a classic case of miscommunication brought their relationship to an end - all without anyone else ever knowing. They grew up and moved on, but not really - trying to figure out how to be friends again. Sage got married and lived a life in California that didn’t include Alex anymore. He eventually entered into a serious relationship with a woman he thought he might marry one day. But now Sage is back in Parton, divorced, and he’s left trying to figure out how to coexist with her back in his life again. The issue is, he’s realizing even at almost 33, he still loves Sage as much as he did when he was 22.
**Alex has been in his relationship with his current girlfriend for almost five years now. The two started dating some months after Sage’s wedding. He loves her, genuinely loves her, and once upon a time, he could really envision a life with her. They’re good together. Mostly happy. The thorn in their side, however, has always been Sage. And while it was easy to ignore at first, it seems all of their fights circle back to her. It has since gotten worse with Sage returning to Parton for good.
**Noticing his father starting to slow down, Alex went from helping out around Coleman’s on occasion to preparing to take over the business as the head luthier for the last seven years. And while it took him a while to come around, he absolutely loves what he does. He loves working with his hands, making something beautiful he can be proud of. Honored to carry on the family tradition, he hopes it’s something he can pass along to his kids one day - whenever the time comes.
