I love that technically in RDverse, Burr marriage trapped Hamilton. He already confessed and accepted Hamilton's ultimatum to commit to him; at this news Alexander was- sure, surprised but also- ready to call John and alert him that he was in a relationship now.
But bc of their (stupidity) lack of being-able-to-be-normal, Burr called in the marriage to save them but also to make sure Hamilton couldn't back down from their relationship. And, despite the- erm- very antousiast reaction from Alexander; Aaron still didn't trust that he would be able to commit and quickly backed down from the "I want you for myself" commitment. It feels like he's hiding his vulnerability and how he actually wants to live the rest of his life with Hamilton through "practiciality" which confuses Hamilton and he also seems to forget Burr's confession.
He especially forgets about it since he calls John trying to make it work with him through the "open" marriage he's gonna have.
This is why I think Burr "marriage trapped" Hamilton. He was obviously ready to fully commit and be a good husband; but bc of Hamilton's short he backed down and proposed to actually not commit. But still would have an escuse to be with Hamilton, even not in the way he'd prefer.
YEAH i have no notes here this is spot on slkdjf. they're both terrified of commitment so they bent over backwards to try and have it without actually Having It. ("oh, we can get married but it won't mean anything. you can do whatever you want. it's just for practical purposes." the usual excuses.) there's also an element of control too. burr marriage trapped him, but hamilton likes having burr around because he can "control" him. (they're both delusional AND exactly like you said, hiding their vulnerabilities) and i don't explicitly say this but, they're still carrying some of that baggage from their past lives where they COULD have everything they wanted / have everything their way (ie in irl history, hamilton fully intended to be married to elizabeth, while also keeping john on the side / burr refused to commit anything to paper so he could have plausible deniability to do whatever he wants)
