Smiles It's always a treat to see smiles! After warfare and the long journey to Izmir province, so many of the kids meet us with vacant faces. Psychosocial help is not a priority as families struggle to stay warm and fed. This guy's expression is a true testament to the resilience of people.

Reality I’ve been shocked and moved by my time in turkey so far. The reality of this problem hits home when I return from the camps to where I lie in bed. The stability of steady income allows me the luxury of removing myself from the situation when I need to. It’s impossible for me to relate to their hardships. However just because we don’t understand, doesn’t mean we should turn a blind eye. It’s unfortunate that it takes such exposure to these events for us to truly empathise and act.

boredom With almost zero stimulation in the camps, kids are left to their own devices. There is void where school once was; its hard hard watching children miss out on pivotal years of growth.

Khalaf The finding of one camp often leads to the discovery of more. People like Khalaf have been a vital asset in directing us to new places to continue our registration; enabling us to meet displaced Syrians' basic needs. On this particular day Khalaf helped us locate over 200 people.

Skip A little bit of rope goes a long way.

Torbali, Turkey. Roadside Camp. Syrian children play in a makeshift farm camp. The camps have appeared all over this region and throughout Turkey; They work to pay their rent in the surrounding rural areas. Over the coming Months I'll be show casing my work from this region, while working alongside these displaced people to winterize their tents and homes, improving their living conditions.

Ahmad, 35. I spoke to his sister Noor, who is currently in a wheelchair, about his character. She explained that Ahmad is a peace keeper. Although he is a passive person he has fought for so much in his life. Noor told me about how he takes care of her, how he helped carry her across the Turkish border in the dead of night. To meet he is not assertive, but Ahmad has faced personal battles beyond our imagination.

Barkat, 15. His name means 'growth'. The conflict in Syria has forced many young men into adult roles with responsibilities that children should never carry. He was endowed with an air of confidence you rarely see in children his age.
