sanvers au where maggie hits alex with her car but alex finds maggie hot and asks her out
“Are you okay?” Kara almost yells as she barges into the emergency room. Alex winces; her head is pounding and it hurts when she breathes and she’s pretty sure her leg is broken but they’re still waiting on the x-rays.
“I’m fine,” she says, but she can tell Kara doesn’t believe her. “I’ll be fine.”
“What the fuck happened?”
“Kara, inside voice. Please.”
“Sorry.”
“I was sort of hit by a car.”
“wHAT?” Alex winces again. “Sorry. What??”
“It wasn’t really a hit. More like a light tap.”
Alex can tell that Kara is struggling not to yell again; she’s clenching her jaw and a vein pops out of her neck.
“You were lightly tapped.”
“Yep.”
“With a car.”
“That is correct.”
“You were tapped with a car and it resulted in-” Kara picks up the chart on the end of the bed and inspects it for a second. “A concussion, several broken ribs, a suspected broken leg and miscellaneous bruising.”
“All of the above.”
Kara pinches the bridge of her nose.
“Do you know who did this?”
“I do.”
“Are you pressing charges?”
“Nope.”
“Answer me properly.”
“I am.”
“I swear to god, I’m gonna punch you in the boob.”
“You’re not allowed to punch me,” Alex frowns. “I’m injured. Plus, Mom outlawed boob punches in 2009.”
“Alex, you’re seriously hurt. Somebody hit you with their car,” Kara says slowly, as though Alex can’t understand her. “Why aren’t you pressing charges??”
Alex doesn’t really believe in god, but honestly, there’s no other explanation for the perfect timing with which the curtain by her bed is pulled back, revealing a slight brunette carrying a tray with drinks. She has long brown hair and dimples visible even though she’s not smiling. She’s wearing a leather jacket and skinny jeans and combat boots and Kara sees the dopey grin on Alex’s face.
“You stupid, useless lesbian.”
“Excuse me?” the woman says.
“I said,” Kara replies through gritted teeth, “my sister is a stupid, useless lesbian. I assume you’re the person who hit her with their car?”
“Oh, shit. Yeah. Maggie Sawyer, NCPD. I’m really sorry, I was chasing a perp and she stepped outta nowhere. She was very understanding.”
Of course she was, she thinks you’re hot, Kara wants to say. But instead she says,
“Thanks for staying and everything, but I’ve got it from here.”
“Are you sure? I don’t mind hanging around…”
And then Kara notices the small smile on Maggie’s face, the way her eyes have never really left Alex’s.
She’s surrounded by useless lesbians.
“Stay,” Kara relents. “It’s not like you can do any more damage.”
“You’re really hot,” Alex says, her eyes glazed. Maggie turns red, and if Kara weren’t so pissed, she’d laugh at her sister.
“She has a concussion,” Kara tells Maggie. “And she’s probably on painkillers.”
I wish I were on painkillers, Kara thinks.
“She should go out with me,” Alex says, this time addressing Kara. “Ask her to go out with me.”
“This isn’t middle school, Alex. I will not ask out this stranger for you.”
“You owe me,” Alex says. “I taught you how to use tampons.”
Maggie stifles a laugh, hastily covering it up with a cough.
Kara’s gonna murder Alex. She’s gonna do it.
“Tell your sister I’ll go out with her,” Maggie tells Kara, playing along with a concussed Alex.
She wonders briefly how hard it would be to kill her sister and a complete stranger.
Instead, she takes one of the coffees from Maggie’s tray, and settles into the chair by Alex’s bed.
If she has to put up with the useless lesbians, she can at least be comfortable as she does.
