listen. l i s t e n. listen. kudos does not equal quality. popularity does not equal quality. i have read some âfandom classicsâ that i could barely fathom how boring or terrible i - personally - found them, and i have stumbled across some absolute gems that didnât even break 100 kudos.Â
what is good doesnât always get the recognition it deserves. itâs sad, but true. just because you havenât - or possibly never take - off in fandom doesnât mean your work isnât astounding and beautiful, it doesnât mean you should stop writing; it just means that a very select corner of the internet missed the diamond in the rough.Â
fanfiction is flooded with content, there are so many of us out there producing it these days, and having a fic that takes off is almost as much about luck as it is about talent. never let a few artificial numbers on the internet dictate to you what is and isnât worthy writing.Â
additionally, you donât have to read or enjoy fics just bcs theyâre big. i cannot count the amount of times iâve read the first paragraph of something fandom adores and immediatly exited out of it.
just⊠do what makes you happy. write what you wanna write, read what you wanna read. understand that while we all want recognition - and some deserve it more than others - we did not get into fanfiction for that recognition.
recognition is good, but sometimes we get all tangled up chasing it and stop enjoying writing and reading and fandom as a whole along the way. be careful of that, please, or youâll burn yourself out.

hi Iâd like to take a moment to bring to your attention the spectacle that is Kara Danvers reporting in a huge storm
Jâonn agreed to go be Supergirl for the night so they could further decrease suspicion itâs her, but some mysterious things are going on
When I say âreportingâ I mean none of their tv newscasters would do it and someone muttered âlet Danvers do it, she survived snapper and still has a smile, she must be bulletproofâ and James was awkwardly laughing and Kara just shrugs and was like ok Iâll do it
So they gave her like a ten minute hereâs-what-you-do and whaddya know, Kara Danvers from CatCo Worldwide Media is the only reporter brave enough to be out there in whatâs threatening to become a hurricane soon, the largest storm ever to hit National City
All the other news stations have gone inside so CatCo is getting MAD coverage. Karaâs cameraman and soundguy both quit, so they just kinda duct tape the boom to the camera and Kara holds the camera at arms length with one hand while shouting into the mike with the other
Wind is howling at seventy miles per hour. Itâs dark. Thereâs a crap ton of rain. The camera is shining a light on Kara, her hair plastered to her face, glasses slightly askew, everything about her soaking wet beneath her two raincoats and poncho, but sheâs grinning.
The camera guy takes a phone video before he leaves, of Kara holding the boom taped to the camera straight out with one arm, the lens a little closer to her face than is advised but whatever, you canât see anything else and Karaâs just standing there, laughing at something the sound guy said before he ran off.
the internet gets ahold of the video when he posts it later with the caption âbts with CatCoâs own supergirlâ, and people freak out over a variety of things:
That camera is actually? Really very heavy?
And sheâs holding it with one arm??
Lesbians are in on this post like you wouldnât believe
How did Kara Danvers keep her glasses on
How is she standing
The wind is so fast, seriously, how is she standing
Are those boots with unicorns and rainbows on them?
Of course she has perfect hair even when sheâs soaking wet, this isnât fair
The bts video goes viral. Just not quite as viral as the part of Karaâs broadcast (which in total was over three hours, three rambling hours in which Kara just repeatedly told people to stay off the roads and shutter their windows in more perky and creative ways) where a streetsign flew out of nowhere and hit her in the side.
She barely remembered to stagger to the side. The camera shook. Then Kara had the audacity to laugh.
Somewhere in Washington DC, Press Secretary Cat Grant is staring at the TV screen with a slightly open mouth, watching in horror as Kara âStorm-Laugherâ Danvers goes viral, every news outlet streaming CatCoâs feed as they tell people to stay off the road, everyone marveling loudly at who this super new newscaster is.
Coffee and Ice Cream
The video hits YouTube on a Sunday morning, and of course, thatâs the worst possible time. Â Winn is sleeping late because he was up half the night being Jamesâ man in the van. Â Itâs Alexâs day off, and sheâs still wrapped around Maggie. Â Neither of them are asleep, but neither of them at checking the social media feeds for any mention of Supergirl, either.
Vasquez actually sees it, but she has a strict policy against giving a shit before noon on her day off, and after laughing for a good twenty minutes, she goes back to watching videos of people restoring vintage motorcycles.
Jâonn technically knows what youtube is, but only because he keeps catching Kara watching cat videos on the monitors in the command center. Â Lena actually knows how to use youtube, but her viewing history is composed entirely of cat videos Kara has sent her mixed in with a larger number of replays of Sleepover by Hayley Kiyoko than is legal for a woman who claims to be straight and not crushing on her best friend.
So, for all intents and purposes, White House Press Secretary Cat Grant is the first person in Karaâs social circle to see it, by which time it already has half a million views.
It shouldnât be a bit deal. Not really. Â Itâs a security video of an attempted convenience store robbery. Not the sort of thing the White House Press Secretary should ever have to bother with.
Except she does.
The video starts off normal enough. Â A young, ethnically ambiguous young man is behind the counter of the store. Â Heâs flipping reading a book, and barely glances up as someone comes in the door. Â A moment later, he has a gun in his face and an angry man in his early twenties demanding he empty the register. Â The clerk trembles as he shoves money into a plastic bag as fast as he can, but both he and the robber turn to look as the door opens.
A girl walked into the store. Â The camera doesnât have a particularly good angle, but several things are clear. Â She has horrible bed hair. Â Sheâs wearing a fuzzy pink bathrobe. Â Sheâs wearing bunny slippers. Â Sheâs carrying a teddy bear tucked under her left arm.
The clerk and the robber watch as she walks right past the in progress felony and stops at the coffee station. Â She picks up the largest cup available, and puts in four of the flavored creamers, and six packs of sugar before adding any actual coffee. Â She stirs it quickly, puts a lid on it, and picks it up in her left hand.
When she turns around, itâs suddenly clear why the robber and the clerk are shell shocked. Â The fluffy pink robe is hanging over, and Supergirlâs suit can be seen under it, clear as day.
She walks back towards the counter, and for a moment, it looks like sheâs going to walk right by them again, but she just casually reaches up and smacks the robber on the forehead as she passes, and he drops like a rock, unconscious.
Supergirl disappears out of frame for about a minute and returns with four half gallon tubs of Eddyâs Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream which she sits on the counter. Then she reaches up, slips her right hand inside the neckline of her suit, pulls a twenty and a ten out of her bra and slaps them on the counter, picks up her ice cream, and walks out the door of the convenience store.
Itâs hard to tell, because the video quality is terrible, but Catâs pretty sure Karaâs eyes are closed the whole time.
When the video ends, Cat just covers her face with her hands and screams into them, because sheâs going to have to find some way to spin the fact that Supergirl is now rescuing people and buying ice cream in her sleep.
Kara SNAPPED and it was beautiful.
